Investment Bank Intern information

What is an investment bank intern?

Investment Bank Interns are students or recent graduates who work temporarily at investment banks to gain practical experience in finance, banking, and related fields. They assist with tasks such as market research, financial modeling, preparing presentations, and supporting senior bankers in deal execution. The internship is designed to provide exposure to the fast-paced environment of investment banking and helps interns develop valuable skills for a potential full-time career in the industry.

What types of projects or tasks can an investment bank intern expect to work on during their internship?

As an Investment Bank Intern, you can expect to support analysts and associates with tasks such as preparing pitch books, conducting industry and company research, building financial models, and assisting with due diligence for live deals. Interns often collaborate closely with team members on client presentations and may participate in meetings or calls with clients and stakeholders. This exposure helps interns gain a strong understanding of key deal processes and offers valuable opportunities to develop technical and communication skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an investment bank intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Investment Bank Intern, you need strong analytical skills, financial modeling knowledge, and a solid understanding of finance or economics, often supported by coursework or a relevant degree. Familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint, Bloomberg terminals, and occasionally financial certifications like CFA Level I are valuable technical assets. Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and effective communication help interns stand out in high-pressure environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for producing accurate work, meeting tight deadlines, and contributing effectively to complex financial projects.
