What are Inventory Counters?

Inventory Counters are professionals responsible for counting, recording, and verifying the quantity of stock or products in warehouses, retail stores, or other inventory-holding facilities. They ensure that the physical inventory matches the records maintained by the company, which helps prevent losses and inaccuracies. Inventory Counters may also help identify discrepancies, assist in stock audits, and support inventory management processes. Their role is essential for businesses to maintain accurate inventory data and make informed decisions regarding ordering and sales.

What are some common challenges faced by Inventory Counters, and how can they be managed effectively?

Inventory Counters often encounter challenges such as working in fast-paced environments, dealing with discrepancies between physical and recorded inventory, and maintaining high accuracy while working under time constraints. Effective communication with team members and supervisors is key to resolving discrepancies quickly. Additionally, staying organized, following established counting procedures, and double-checking work can help minimize errors and ensure inventory counts are accurate.

The roles are closely related, with overlapping skills and work settings, but differ slightly in daily responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Inventory Counter, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Inventory Counter, you need strong attention to detail, basic math skills, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Dependability, accuracy, and the ability to work efficiently within a team or independently are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills ensure inventory is accurately tracked and reported, which is critical for efficient business operations and minimizing losses.

Job description

Our Mindset

Here's to those who think differently. The ones who think that a car dealership's first priority should be the guest. Such a candid idea could only come from Ourisman. Because we're forward thinking, just like the communities we serve. Individuals who won't be constrained by how things "have always been done", but instead strive to do things "how they could be done" and "how they should be done." It is a philosophy we have infused into every fabric of our dealerships, from the bottom up, in every department, and in every Ourisman team member. Changing the way we all think about car buying is just the beginning.

Role Snapshot

As a Parts Counter Representative, you'll keep repairs and customer requests moving by matching the right parts to the right vehicles-quickly and accurately. This role exists to support both guests and service technicians with clear information, dependable sourcing, and organized records.
Key responsibilities include assisting customers at the counter, answering questions on parts/accessories, processing orders with complete details, coordinating with sales and service for timely repairs, communicating with suppliers on special orders and discrepancies, tracking sales/returns documentation, and helping maintain inventory through receiving, stocking, and organization.
Required qualifications/skills:
- Parts department or automotive experience preferred
- Strong communication and professional customer interaction
- Familiarity with parts catalog tools and inventory software
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to multitask
- Able to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently
Pay: $15.00-$33.00/hr. Apply today to be considered.

A Typical Shift

You start by checking the day's incoming shipments and getting fast-moving items set up so the counter stays ready. Throughout the day, you bounce between quick questions, more detailed lookups, and follow-ups on special-order statuses, keeping everyone informed and expectations clear. You'll spend time in the catalog system, confirm fitment, and keep paperwork and returns tidy so the department stays accurate. As the shop pace changes, you adjust priorities, communicate updates, and close out the day by ensuring the counter and inventory areas are set for a smooth next morning.

Your Coverage

Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance; 401(k); Life Insurance; Health Savings Account (HSA); Flexible Spending Account (FSA); Competitive Salary; and Paid Time Off (PTO).

Ourisman Automotive Group is an equal opportunity employer. We believe in hiring a diverse workforce and sustaining an inclusive, people-first culture. We are committed to non-discrimination on any protected basis, such as disability and veteran status, or any other basis covered under applicable law. Should you require accommodation during the interview process, please advise the hiring manager when contacted for an interview.
