Job description
Department:Interventional Radiology
Division:Diagnostic Imaging
Reports to:Department Chair
We are seeking a full-time clinical faculty member to join the Department of Interventional Radiology at the Texas Medical Center (TMC) in Houston, Texas. The department provides a broad scope of image-guided interventions and therapies, with a particular focus on Interventional Oncology. Faculty at all ranks participate in a mix of procedures, outpatient and inpatient care, trainee education, and research within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
The Department of Interventional Radiology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the largest and most comprehensive programs in the country, dedicated exclusively to the care of oncology patients. In 2025, the department performed over 26,000 procedures, reflecting the scale and complexity of our clinical practice. Our faculty provide a wide range of image-guided interventions across oncology and non-oncology domains.
Clinical services are delivered across IR-dedicated procedural suites at TMC and two outpatient Houston Area Locations (HALs), supporting a broad and high-acuity patient population. The department also maintains a robust, well-funded research program, including a dedicated pre-clinical lab equipped with a hybrid CT and angiography system, as well as experienced research support staff.
The department is deeply committed to education and training, offering an independent IR residency program, an integrated IR-DR residency in affiliation with UTHealth Houston and an advanced Interventional Oncology Fellowship sponsored by MD Anderson.
The successful candidate will contribute to clinical care, education, research, and service activities in alignment with the department's mission and will have opportunities to work across multiple clinical sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality clinical care according to standards set forth by the Texas Medical Board and the American Board of Radiology, including performing procedures, patient follow-up, and consultation with referring providers. The members must have mobility to travel to any required location and be able to deliver the required standard of clinical care at any site.
- Participate in the education and mentorship of residents and fellows through didactic teaching and clinical training.
- Engage in scholarly activity, including clinical and/or basic research aligned with departmental goals.
- Contribute to departmental and institutional service through committee participation and administrative activities.
- Represent the department through professional engagement at the local, regional, and national levels.
Qualifications
- Doctorate-level degree in a field appropriate to the faculty role and departmental mission
- Board certification in Radiology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR), consistent with departmental and institutional guidelines
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and a Texas Medical License required
Experience
Candidates must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience, academic accomplishments, and institutional criteria. The members of the Department are appointed upon the recommendation of the Chair of the Department of Interventional Radiology with concurrence of the Division Head of Diagnostic Imaging, and approval by the President of the Institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology
- CAQ certification in Interventional Radiology (or eligibility if a recent graduate)
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical care and patient service
- Evidence of scholarly activity or potential for research and academic contributions
- Interest in collaborative, team-based care and institutional service
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center offers excellent benefits, including medical, dental, paid time off, retirement, tuition benefits, educational opportunities, and individual and team recognition.
