Newtek Bank, N.A. is looking to add a Payment Operations Specialist to its team.
The Payment Operations Specialist supports the daily execution of payment processing activities across ACH, wires, debit cards, checks, and emerging payment channels. This role focuses on transaction processing, accuracy, and compliance with bank policies and network rules. The Specialist works under general supervision and collaborates with internal teams to resolve payment-related inquiries while developing foundational knowledge of payment operations.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned as needed):
• Assist with daily transaction processing and exception handling for check, ACH, wire, Zelle, Instant Payments, and debit card transactions in accordance with established procedures.
• Verify transaction details for accuracy and escalate discrepancies as needed.
• Assist in processing check-related functions, reviewing ACH files, notifications of change (NOCs), returns, and Written Statements of Unauthorized Debit (WSUDs) under supervision.
• Research and assist in resolving payment-related exceptions and adjustments.
• Perform basic reconciliation and tracking of payment transactions and accounts.
• Assist with domestic and international wire processing.
• Support debit card and ATM operations, including card issuance, replacements, account maintenance, dispute monitoring, and ATM balancing and reconciliation.
• Work closely with internal teams (Customer Service, Accounting, IT) to address basic payment inquiries.
• Follow bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
• Participate in training programs to build knowledge of payment systems, rules, and risk management.
• Participate in assigned rotational schedules or processing coverage as required to support daily operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Basic understanding of banking operations and payment processing (ACH, wire, debit card preferred).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow established procedures and escalate issues appropriately.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Comfortable working independently under general supervision in a structured, deadline driven environment.
• Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of payment systems and regulations.
• Basic proficiency with banking systems and standard office software.
Education & Certification Requirements:
• Associate or bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred.
• 1 to 2 years of experience in banking or financial services preferred.
• Interest in pursuing AAP (Accredited ACH Professional) or similar certifications is a plus.
Experience Requirements:
• Entry-level role: prior internship or support experience in banking or operations is helpful but not required.
• Exposure to deposit operations, reconciliation, and/or transaction processing is a plus.

This role is critical to maintaining a secure, efficient, and compliant payment processing environment. The Payment Operations Specialist will be entrusted with sensitive transaction oversight and expected to set the standard for operational excellence and regulatory integrity within the team.
Salary Range: $55,000 to $65,000 annually
