Within Navy Federal, the Savings & Membership Department (SMD) drives the identification of new and innovative ways to inspire and enable a better financial future for our members by focusing on their Lifetime Journey, Money Management, and Money Movement. Digital Payments is a division of SMD that is tasked to shape products providing personalized, scalable, and secure Money Movement experiences that continuously exceed members' evolving payment expectations.
The Summer Associate will join the Digital Payments Product Strategy and Portfolio team, supporting strategic analysis, business case development, product evaluation, portfolio planning, and executive communications. The associate will research emerging payment trends, analyze member and operational impacts, develop recommendations, and create materials that support decision-making for future payment capabilities and modernization initiatives. Working alongside strategists and cross-functional partners, the associate will help shape the future of payment experiences through initiatives spanning ACH, Wires, Zelle, Faster Payments, cross-border payments, and other emerging money movement solutions.
The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2027 and ending in August 2027. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
Responsibilities
  • Assess the competitive landscape of competitor products and services including potential disruptive technologies
  • Evaluate and improve the team's best processes to pace or lead the greater marketplace
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders across the organization to build new relationships as well as influence new behaviors
  • Develop recommendations for strategic initiatives or products for the Digital Payments space based on research, findings, data, and other empirical evidence
  • Develop high-level roadmaps and/or detailed action plans as applicable
  • Develop and present proposal on findings from analysis and research to management up to and including senior executives
  • Become integrated into and participate in the day-to-day strategy, analysis, and operations of the team

Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in a related field
  • Experience using Microsoft 365 productivity and AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, to support research, analysis, content development, and presentation creation.
  • Experience with research, analysis, and data manipulation
  • Knowledge of, or experience using, data and analytics tools such as PowerBI, Databricks, SQL, SPSS Modeler, R, Tableau, or equivalent
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in group settings
  • Strong strategic, critical, and analytical thinking skills
  • Basic knowledge of financial services/payments is a plus
