The ATC Training Scenario Scripter is an entry-to-mid-level technical role responsible for supporting the development, modification, validation, and maintenance of Air Traffic Control (ATC) training scenarios for the FAA Tower Simulation System Enhancement 2 (TSS E2). Working under the direction of a senior ATC Training Scenario Developer, this individual transforms operational concepts, training objectives, and FAA-provided scripts into executable simulation scenarios.

This position focuses on implementing the senior Scenario Developer's vision by configuring aircraft, vehicles, weather, communications, operational events, and instructor actions within the simulation environment. The ideal candidate has a passion for aviation, simulation, game development, or flight simulation and enjoys creating realistic operational experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Scenario Development:

  • Configure aircraft, ground vehicles, weather, runway configurations, communications, and operational events.
  • Implement traffic flows and sequencing based on FAA-provided scripts and training objectives.
  • Configure instructor-triggered events including emergencies, equipment failures, runway closures, and abnormal operations.
  • Support development of scenarios for Local Control (LC), Ground Control (GC), Flight Data (FD), Clearance Delivery (CD), Supervisor, and automated controller positions.

Scenario Scripting:

  • Configure aircraft routes, schedules, callsigns, aircraft types, and behavioral parameters.
  • Build scenario timelines, event triggers, conditional logic, and scripted sequences.
  • Configure weather transitions, visibility, runway changes, and operational conditions.
  • Implement instructor controls and configurable scenario options.
  • Support rapid modification of existing scenarios in response to customer requests.

Quality Assurance Support:

  • Execute scenarios to verify proper sequencing, timing, and operational behavior.
  • Identify and correct scripting errors, traffic conflicts, communication issues, and logic defects.
  • Participate in scenario reviews with senior developers and subject matter experts.
  • Document test results and support scenario validation activities.

Repository & Configuration Support:

  • Maintain scenario files within the program configuration management system.
  • Follow version control procedures for all scenario updates.
  • Maintain organized documentation of scenario configurations and revisions.
  • Support packaging and release of approved scenarios.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with senior Scenario Developers, VDB Developers, software engineers, and systems engineers.
  • Participate in Agile sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical reviews.
  • Support rapid implementation of scenario updates and demonstration requests.
