Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Intern - Wireless Systems Engineer reports to the R&D Director on the Communications Systems teamThe successful individual in this role will learn from and work with experts in wireless communications, DSP, and networking, helping to design, simulate, analyze, and implement solutions that address real-world challenges in dynamic and demanding RF environments.
This internship is full-time, on-site Monday through Friday, at Silvus Technologies' HQ in the heart of vibrant West LA.
The following is a list of at least some of the current essential functions of this internship opportunity.
ROLE, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
  • Algorithm and protocol design and parameterization for wireless systems projects.
  • Simulate and evaluate communication systems and signal-processing algorithms.
  • Hands-on work with Silvus radio products and Research & Development prototypes.
  • System testing and characterization, to include:
    • Lab equipment for signal generation, channel emulation, spectrum analysis, etc.
    • Custom test utilities and data capture/analysis scripts.
    • Field test planning and execution.
  • Participate in the generation of technical documentation and presentations.
  • Opportunities to further engage, learn, and develop skills as projects progress.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • In-progress Bachelor's degree or in-progress Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical field.
  • Basic understanding of Communication Transmission Methods.
  • Basic understanding of digital signal processing.
  • Exposure to Linear Algebra (Eigenvectors).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug testing.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • MATLAB coding experience.
  • Understanding of Statistics and Probability applied to communication signal processing.
  • Understanding of Physical Layer Signal Processing including optimal detection.
  • Familiarity with OFDM and MIMO systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Office environment.
  • Outdoor environment for demos.
  • Occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens while performing tests or demonstrations in the field.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following:
    • Lift equipment up to 20 lbs. for the set-up of demonstrations and testing.
    • Perform bending and reaching movements to place items on lower and higher shelves.
    • Kneeling or squatting to access lower shelves.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. when receiving incoming part shipments.
    • Walking/Moving in the labs.

CA Pay Range: $28.60 - $33.80 / hourly [in-progress Bachelor's degree]
CA Pay Range: $42.00 / hourly [in-progress Master's degree]
Basic Requirements
  • In-progress Bachelor's degree or in-progress Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical field.
  • Basic understanding of digital signal processing.
