Job description

Veterinary Referral Center (VRC) Training Program

Veterinary Referral Center (VRC) is seeking veterinarians passionate about working in emergency medicine for our 6-month training and mentorship program. We are looking for individuals who are team oriented, driven, reflective, and reliable to train with us and transition into an ER position at Veterinary Referral Center (VRC).

VRC is a 24/7/365 Emergency and Specialty veterinary hospital located about 30 minutes from the Greater Philadelphia area. In addition to Emergency and Critical Care services, VRC also offers Anesthesiology & Pain Management, Cardiology, Dentistry & Oral Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Internal Medicine, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Physical Rehabilitation, and Surgery services.

The Ethos ER Immerse Training Program

The ER Immerse Program will prepare veterinarians for a sustainable and satisfying career in emergency medicine. Built from the ground up to be different than traditional rotating internship programs, the ERi program has been developed around a curriculum of core competencies essential for an emergency veterinarian. In addition to providing training around clinical knowledge and skills, the program also includes a focus on client and team member communication, professional skills, and life/work integration.

The ER Immerse program utilizes a hybrid training approach incorporating simulation-based didactic components into authentic training experiences with live patients. The curriculum is designed using an evidence-based strategy identifying competencies and skills deemed essential for a successful career as an emergency clinician.

Applications are accepted year-round; however, mentorship positions are limited. To maximize your chances of securing a placement, we recommend submitting your application by November 1st. Applications received after this date will be considered as opportunities remain available.

Work authorization in the United States is a requirement for the position. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship by the company, but candidates eligible for TN status may be considered.

Program Duration/Commitment:

  • 6-month training program beginning June or July 2027
  • 1-year commitment as an ER clinician at Veterinary Referral Center

Location: Veterinary Referral Center (VRC): 340 Lancaster Ave, Malvern, PA 19355

Program Highlights:

  • 5-day work week consisting of 4 clinical days, 1 didactic day, and 2 days off each week, usually consecutive (Post mentorship schedule would be three 12-hour shifts per week, consisting of swing and overnight shifts)
  • Rotate with other specialty services during the training program on occasion
  • Always work with a dedicated mentor on shifts
  • No on-call
  • Competency-based curriculum that includes asynchronous learning on Vetbloom and weekly live virtual didactic rounds
  • Regular live continuing education events led by specialists and experienced emergency doctors

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive base salary and tiered retention bonus structure

  • PTO and sick time
  • Personal pet discounts
  • Health benefit plans options (Medical, dental, vision)
  • 401K retirement plan
  • Uniform allowance
  • Access to advanced diagnostics, specialty services, and a highly trained support team
  • Collaborative environment designed for clinical excellence and continued learning
