Job description

Introduction THE CITY OF OCEANSIDE IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER. The City of Oceanside's SkillBridge program offers eligible service members an exceptional opportunity to transition into a career in law enforcement by gaining valuable hands-on experience as a Police Officer. Participates will receive comprehensive training, working across various divisions such as: Investigations Patrol SWAT Traffic Investigations Crisis Negotiations UAS Program (Unmanned Aerial Support/Drone Team) Neighborhood and Homeless Outreach K-9 Beach Team This initiative is designed to prepare candidates for the challenges and responsibilities of public safety while equipping them with skills and experience critical for a future in law enforcement.

This is an unpaid Volunteer/Intern position for Active Duty Service members participating in the SkillBridge program prior to completion of military service. Examples of Duties Police Officers Interns will provided assistance to the Police Department performing a variety of duties including assisting with special events such as setting up barricades, traffic control, delivering and setting up equipment and materials; pick up, transport, deliver and place into storage archived files; assist with firing range operations including collection and transport of range revenues; provides courier service to Department; may assist customers at the public counter of the Police Department; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of: Traffic safety procedures and laws. Police Department policies and procedures. Ability to: Communicate accurate information clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; Control uncooperative individuals; Utilize correct English, grammar and syntax when conveying information; Remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places; Make accurate observations; Demonstrate firearms proficiency; Make sound judgments and take quick actions in emergencies; Operate a variety of motor vehicles; Follow verbal and written instructions; Read and comprehend various documents written in standard English text; and Demonstrate physical agility.

Experience and Training Experience: Must be a current Active Duty Service Member participating in the Skillbridge program. Training: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Special Requirements: Possess a valid Class C Driver's license at time of appointment.
