What is an internship supervisor?

Internship supervisors are professionals responsible for overseeing and guiding interns during their internship experience. Internship supervisors also serve as a bridge between the intern and the organization, ensuring that the internship is valuable for both parties and that workplace standards and policies are followed.

An Internship Supervisor plays a key role in guiding interns by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and creating opportunities for skill-building. They often organize check-in meetings, assign meaningful projects, and encourage interns to reflect on their learning goals. Job description

KSN is looking for college students who are excited to learn more about the world of TV news! The unpaid internship is a step into the professional broadcast journalism world. Collegiate TV production experience is not necessary. We are looking for interns who have had at least a few journalism classes (print or broadcast) or have strong high school journalism classes/experience.

Internship includes shadowing and working alongside multiple team members to learn many different skills in the newsroom. Interns could shadow and work alongside producers, photographers, reporters, digital team members, and other newsroom team members, learning about writing, researching, photojournalism, video editing, and producing newscasts.

This is an unpaid internship and must be done in conjunction with a degree-based program, for college credit. This internship is designed for college students who are in the early to middle stages of their collegiate careers. (Our paid internships are limited and reserved for upper-level students ready for more rigorous work in the newsroom.)

Position is located in Wichita, Kansas, and will remain open until filled. There is no "normal" schedule in a newsroom, so expect odd hours, including weekends, evenings or early mornings. We will be respectful of your college course schedule in your weekly internship schedule. We have hired some of our previous rock-star interns for paid part-time or full-time work - this is a great way to get your foot in the door!

Internship Details:

  • Each internship is for 16-25hours per week for up to 15 weeks
  • Will be well supervised and participate ina meaningful learning experience
  • Students are expected to obtain and complete any forms necessary to receive credit for the internship experience
  • Upon completion of the internship, the student will be evaluated through a written review by the internship supervisor

Requirements & Skills:

  • Enrolled in an accredited school, college, or university
  • Be of moderate skill level due to complexity of projects
  • Expected to work 2-3 shifts per week, hours may vary
  • A collaborative worker with a willingness to learn
  • Previous internship experience a plus, but not required
  • Fluency in English, bilingual Spanish a plus
