Job description

Department:                     Department of Subways 
Location:                          333 West 53rd Street, New York, NY 10019
Position Title:                   Data Analyst (PCC), Emerging Talent Intern
Hourly Rate:                    $21.00 (Graduate)
 
All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.
 
 
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
The Power Control Center (PCC) supports New York City Transit’s power-related operations across the subway system, including traction power, equipment outages, planned work, incidents, unusual occurrences, and emergency conditions. The department coordinates with control center staff, field teams, maintenance groups, and other internal stakeholders to help ensure power-related issues are properly tracked, communicated, and documented. PCC’s work supports safe, reliable, and efficient subway operations across NYCT.
 
The intern will support the OCC/PCC Data Team in improving data reporting, dashboarding, and internal information management. The assignment includes helping combine multiple Power BI reports into one centralized, dynamic dashboard connected to multiple databases, supporting the AI Insights proof-of-concept project, and standardizing the SharePoint site and folder structure for easier document access and team collaboration.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with reviewing existing Power BI reports and identifying overlapping metrics, data sources, and dashboard components.
  • Support the consolidation of multiple Power BI reports into one centralized dashboard with clear visuals, dynamic filtering, and consistent reporting logic.
  • Help validate data accuracy across different databases, reports, and source systems.
  • Assist in documenting dashboard requirements, business rules, KPIs, and user feedback.
  • Support the AI Insights proof-of-concept by helping organize use cases, data sources, sample questions, expected outputs, and testing results.
  • Help test AI Insights functionality and document findings, limitations, and improvement opportunities.
  • Review the existing SharePoint site and recommend improvements to folder structure, naming conventions, document libraries, and overall organization.
  •  Assist with creating user-friendly documentation, process guides, and standard operating procedures for dashboards, SharePoint usage, and AI Insights workflows.
  • Support basic records management tasks, including filing, organizing, and maintaining documents for departmental records as needed.
 
PROJECTS:
  • Centralized Power BI Dashboard Project: Assist in combining multiple existing Power BI reports into one major dashboard with dynamic filtering, consistent KPIs, and connected data views across different databases.
  • AI Insights Proof-of-Concept Support: Support the development and documentation of an AI Insights system that helps the team search, summarize, and analyze operational information more efficiently.
  • SharePoint Standardization Project: Help organize and standardize the SharePoint site, document libraries, folder structures, naming conventions, and access layout to improve document management and team usability.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills. 
  • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA
  • Major(s) Preferred: Computer Science, or related field.
