Job description

About the Role

PhaseV is a clinical AI company applying causal machine learning and Bayesian adaptive design to accelerate clinical development and make clinical trials smarter, faster, and more predictable. We work with 45+ pharma sponsors and CROs — and we're growing fast.

This is a 3 month internship. As our Strategy & Market Intelligence Intern, you'll sit at the intersection of strategy, technology, and the life sciences. You'll build a living view of the competitive and market landscape and, in doing so, help shape how PhaseV positions itself as the platform of reference in clinical AI. You'll have real ownership: designing research frameworks, synthesizing insights for senior leadership, and piloting lightweight AI-powered tools that keep our intelligence fresh without manual effort.

You're resourceful, curious, and not intimidated by ambiguity. You know how to find signal in complex markets, and you care about turning that signal into something actionable.

  • We're based in Boston and prefer candidates who can join us in person, at least part of the time. We'll consider remote candidates in exceptional cases.
Key ResponsibilitiesCompetitive Landscape
  • Evaluate PhaseV's competitive landscape and create competitive intelligence framework
  • Build and maintain a structured competitive analysis across clinical AI, and adaptive design, covering positioning, product capabilities, pricing, partnerships, and funding activity
  • Create a centralized tracker that PhaseV can maintain moving forward
  • If time allows, include data vendors
Strategic Synthesis and Storytelling
  • Translate intelligence into clear, exec-ready insights, using business framework such as SWOT. Example: identify white space, emerging threats, category positioning opportunities that feed into board materials and go-to-market strategy
  • Create executive ready report
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Marketing, BD, and Product to ensure market insights are embedded in pitch decks, content strategy, and product positioning.
  • Present findings directly to senior stakeholders, including the CEO.
Industry and Regulation
  • Track pharma and CRO trends, regulatory signals (FDA, EMA), and clinical trial technology adoption
  • Contextualize PhaseV's positioning within a rapidly evolving landscape.
Market Intelligence agent (if time)
  • Define and conceptualize an AI-powered agent (or structured workflow) that monitors competitors, tracks relevant publications and press, and surfaces updates automatically, reducing manual tracking overhead in the future
  • Partner with an R&D expert to jointly develop the agent/ the technology
QualificationsRequired
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in life sciences, business, data science, public health, or a related field
  • Genuine interest in pharma, biotech, health tech, or clinical research — through coursework, projects, or prior experience
  • Creative thinker who approaches problems with a fresh perspective
  • Excellent written and verbal communication — can synthesize complexity into clarity
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-starter with a proactive, resourceful approach to problem-solving and eagerness to learn
Preferred
  • Familiarity with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc.) and curiosity about how agents and automation work
  • Prior exposure to strategy, consulting, or market research — even in academic or extracurricular contexts
  • Basic familiarity with clinical trial concepts, drug development stages, or CRO/pharma industry dynamics, or willingness to learn
  • Experience with tools like Powerpoint, Notion, Airtable, or Excel for organizing and presenting research
  • Comfortable with no-code or low-code tools, or genuinely eager to learn about them on the job
What Success Looks Like

In 3 months, you will have built:

  • A comprehensive market intelligence map — structured, documented, and presentation-ready.
  • A working intelligence agent or workflow — a functional prototype that surfaces competitor and market updates with minimal ongoing manual effort. Not perfect, but scrappy and useful.
  • Strategic insights that land — at least one market insight that directly shapes a go-to-market decision, a positioning narrative, or a board-level conversation during your time here.
  • A handoff package — clear methodology and documentation so the work you started continues to compound after you leave.
Why Join PhaseV

PhaseV is transforming how clinical trials are designed, optimized, and executed through cutting-edge causal AI. Joining PhaseV means becoming part of a world-class team that is redefining the future of clinical development. This is a unique opportunity to join the company at a pivotal inflection point, helping accelerate our growth while working at the intersection of life sciences, artificial intelligence, and commercial strategy.
