Position Overview

The Outpatient Mental Health Counseling Intern plays a crucial role in assisting clients to navigate their mental health challenges through evidence-based therapeutic interventions within a supportive community health clinic. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions utilizing evidence-based practices tailored to meet the unique needs of clients.
  • Collaborate closely with licensed mental health professionals to design, implement, and refine comprehensive treatment plans based on client assessments.
  • Maintain complete and accurate clinical documentation, ensuring confidentiality and integrity in all records.
  • Participate in ongoing supervision and training sessions aimed at enhancing clinical skills and fostering professional growth.
  • Monitor and evaluate client progress, adjusting treatment strategies as necessary to align with therapeutic goals.
  • Engage in regular multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss client updates, treatment approaches, and to receive feedback.
Patient Population / Client Focus

As an intern, you will work with a diverse patient population, including children, adolescents, and adults facing various mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges. Understanding the social, cultural, and economic factors affecting these individuals is critical as you develop meaningful interpersonal relationships with them.

Qualifications
  • Currently holds a valid Washington Intern License in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field of study.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective engagement with clients and team members.
  • A self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently, while also thriving in a collaborative team setting.
Preferred Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a clinical or therapeutic setting is preferred, which can include internships, practicum, or volunteer roles.
  • Previous experience utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation and client management.
  • Exposure to evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Compensation and Benefits
