SAP S/4HANA AVC Workstream Leadย 

Location: San Diego, CA (Partial Remote with Travel Requirements)
Duration: 6-Month Contract

Job Summary

STAFFXPERT LLC is seeking a SAP S/4HANA AVC Workstream Lead (Advanced Variant Configuration) on behalf of our client in San Diego, CA. This role is ideal for a seasoned SAP professional with deep expertise in SAP Advanced Variant Configuration (AVC) and SAP S/4HANA transformation initiatives. The selected consultant will lead the migration and implementation of AVC solutions, driving solution design, integration strategy, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support for highly configurable product environments.

This position requires strong technical leadership, hands-on AVC configuration experience, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional business and technology teams to deliver scalable and sustainable SAP solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the SAP AVC workstream throughout the full project lifecycle, from design through deployment and hypercare.

  • Design and implement advanced AVC models utilizing procedures, constraints, Super BOMs, variant tables, object dependencies, and configuration profiles.

  • Drive migration initiatives from SAP LO-VC to SAP Advanced Variant Configuration (AVC).

  • Lead model conversion, master data migration, and transition of P-Functions to BAdIs.

  • Utilize Product Data Replication (PDR) for AVC model and master data migration activities.

  • Collaborate with solution architects, business stakeholders, and technical teams to define scalable AVC solutions.

  • Support requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, testing, cutover planning, and production support.

  • Assess integration impacts across upstream and downstream business processes.

  • Conduct design workshops and technical reviews with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Pricing, and IT teams.

  • Identify implementation risks, develop mitigation plans, and establish testing strategies.

  • Provide guidance on SAP best practices, clean core principles, and S/4HANA extensibility frameworks.

  • Troubleshoot performance issues and optimize complex configuration models.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years of SAP experience with a strong focus on Variant Configuration.

  • Extensive hands-on experience with SAP Advanced Variant Configuration (AVC).

  • Proven experience leading LO-VC to AVC migration projects.

  • Strong experience converting P-Functions to BAdIs.

  • Deep expertise in:

    • SAP AVC Modeling

    • Configuration Profiles

    • Object Dependencies

    • Class Management

    • Super BOMs

    • Variant Tables

    • Procedures and Constraints

  • Experience utilizing Product Data Replication (PDR) for AVC migrations.

  • Advise on AVC support for Dynamic/Flexible Bundling (Kits) and Variant Pricing.

  • Provide guidance on AVC integration with:

    • Solution Quotation (SQ)

    • Assemble-to-Order (ATO)

    • Engineer-to-Order (ETO)

  • Assess AVC impacts on:

    • Advanced ATP (AATP)

    • Product Allocation

    • Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP)

    • Material Requirements Planning (MRP)

    • Segmentation

    • BRIM

  • Support post-migration enhancements and integration optimization initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience within Life Sciences or highly regulated manufacturing environments.

  • Experience supporting highly configurable products in complex manufacturing organizations.

  • Knowledge of SAP RAP and modern SAP S/4HANA extensibility approaches.
