Responsibilities

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Campus and Community Systems team. This position is a two-year limited-tenure Software Engineer position supporting a portfolio of custom applications across clinical and enterprise IT domains, including the Referring Coordination Office, Occupational Health, Occupational Safety, and others. The initial focus will be enhancing, modernizing, and maintaining established C#/.NET applications with components hosted both on premises and in Microsoft Azure.
The engineer will work within the existing application portfolio to:

  • Assess proposed enhancements and translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
  • Plan and implement features, integrations, and application improvements.
  • Validate changes across development, quality assurance, and production environments.
  • Support application releases and address operational issues affecting supported systems.
  • Maintain and improve existing codebases while balancing feature delivery, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and business partners to clarify requirements, dependencies, and implementation approaches.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field; Or an Associates' degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with an additional 2 years of experience as described below.

Have working knowledge and experience of Software Engineering with a minimum of internships and a minimum of 1 yr. of experience, or 2yrs of experience coding applications or services in a high-level language (C, C++, Golang, Java, C# etc.). 
Demonstrated problem solving and time management skills. 
Possesses strong technical aptitude for designing and implementing software solutions. 
Experience with modern application development frameworks 
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. 
Deep hands-on technical expertise, excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
Experience with Agile software development techniques. 
Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong experience developing and supporting C#/.NET applications.
  • Experience developing or supporting system integrations using technologies such as RESTful APIs, SFTP, and message queues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server and relational database development.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure application services and hybrid cloud/on-premises architectures.
  • Ability to analyze existing applications, understand unfamiliar codebases, and implement changes with appropriate testing and risk management.
  • Experience supporting business-critical applications in production environments.
  • Ability to work effectively with non-technical stakeholders to refine requirements and evaluate solution options.
  • Experience with healthcare applications, clinical systems, or complex enterprise IT environments is beneficial.
  • Experience using AI-assisted software development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or OpenCode, to support code completion, test generation, refactoring, code analysis, or developer documentation.

8:00am - 5:00pm CST; Monday - Friday. Occasional nights and weekends. 24/7 on-call rotation. This is a hybrid position and must be located within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic campus for occasional on-site expectations based on business needs.
