The mission of the Center for Molecular & Behavioral Neuroscience (CMBN) of School of Arts & Sciences, Newark (SASN) is to advance understanding of the brain's structure and function through excellence in neuroscience research and training.
Our researchers pursue this goal through an integrative approach that cuts across the boundaries of traditional disciplines. They combine molecular, electrophysiological, neurochemical, anatomical, imaging, behavioral, and neuropsychological methods to analyze how the brain works, develops, interacts with the environment, and is modified by experience in health and disease. CMBN is also committed to serving the academic and surrounding Newark communities through educational outreach, community service, and research internship programs that train undergraduate and high school students.
Posting Summary
Rutgers University - Newark, an urban public research anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Research Coordinator. Provides professional, research, or technical management of assigned duties and assures that program(s) proceed as planned. Communicates and collaborates with numerous individuals to maintain involvement in all facets of the project; accountable for major project decisions, protocols, metrics, and client satisfaction. Demonstrates leadership role in forming and maintaining productive working relationships. May manage professional and paraprofessional staff and motivate groups to implement the strategy of the organization. Develops procedures for reporting and is responsible for protocol development and/or approvals. May be recognized as a subject matter expert and act as a consultant to faculty or staff. Position is grant-funded.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • The coordinator will serve as the primary liaison with external testing sites in Florida and Louisiana, facilitating smooth communication, study logistics, and data collection.
  • The coordinator will collaborate on the development and expansion of research protocols, including the study "Pathways to Healthy Aging in African Americans" to a national level with external sites.
  • The coordinator will assist in the preparation, submission, and monitoring of research grant proposals.
  • The coordinator will maintain strong working relationships with faculty, staff, and study participants, providing guidance on study procedures and best practices.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

This position is contingent on the continuation of external funding.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Requires a minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience in an administrative and/or supervisory function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education/experience in the discipline. A master's degree in a specialized discipline may be required, particularly in research, project management or managerial positions.
  • Requires a minimum of five years experience and/or increasing functional responsibility in a leadership/managerial role. With a master's degree requirement, a minimum of three years of related experience is acceptable.
  • Excellent communication skills and computer literacy.

  • Regularly uses actigraphy, polysomnography, functional imaging, mobile apps, and devices, Excel, MS Access, SharePoint, Asasa, MS Word, and knows or will learn all the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Laboratory environment. Transports genetic materials to external laboratories for analysis and travels to other locations in a personal vehicle.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
  • Compliance with all human subject's research and health and safety policies and procedures, and completion of any required training is mandatory.

  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, customer service-focused environment, with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the Center, SASN, and RU-N, as well as how this position's tasks and responsibilities contribute to achieving those goals.
