Internship Robotics information
What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on during an internship robotics?
As a Robotics Intern, you can expect to be involved in a range of hands-on and theoretical tasks, such as hardware assembly, programming and testing robot behaviors, assisting with system integration, and contributing to research or data collection. You might work closely with experienced engineers and researchers, participating in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and problem-solving discussions. Interns often get opportunities to use industry-standard tools, gain exposure to the entire development cycle, and take on incremental responsibility as they demonstrate their skills. These experiences are designed to give you practical insights into the field while supporting the ongoing work of the robotics team. This collaborative environment helps interns develop both technical proficiency and valuable professional relationships for their future careers.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an internship robotics position, and why are they important?
To thrive as an Internship Robotics candidate, you generally need a background in engineering, computer science, or a related field, along with foundational knowledge in robotics principles and programming (e.g., Python, C++, ROS). Familiarity with hardware prototyping tools, simulation environments, and relevant software platforms is often required, and certifications in robotics or embedded systems can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication are standout soft skills in this position. These competencies enable interns to successfully contribute to projects, adapt to technical challenges, and collaborate efficiently in multidisciplinary robotics teams.
What is an internship robotics?
An Internship Robotics job is a temporary position where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience in robotics engineering, programming, or research. Interns typically work on projects involving robotics design, automation, AI, or hardware development under the supervision of experienced professionals. This role helps develop technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and industry knowledge, preparing interns for future careers in robotics or related fields.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)
This position operates in three phases, beginning with full-time preparatory work and transitioning into a hybrid role that combines classroom instruction with research, program growth, and multi-site implementation.
Under the supervision of the school principal, this position is responsible for the implementation of the Electromechanical Catalyst grant. Implementation includes preparatory work, program development, classroom instruction, research and data collection, and multi-site implementation.
Phase 1: During this phase, this employee will focus on the design, planning, and stakeholder engagement required to launch the program for the upcoming year; prepare the classroom; procure required equipment; establish an industry advisory council with local employers to identify workforce entry requirements and ensure program alignment; conduct analysis of regional workforce data to ensure the program addresses specific training gaps in the region; and curriculum development.
Phase 2: During this phase, the position transitions into a hybrid instructional and developmental role of lead instructor and research, needs assessment and growth. The employee will act as an instructor 50% of the time and will be responsible for instructional delivery teaching electromechanical pathway courses (electronics, robotics, manufacturing principles, and CTE internships); providing hands-on training to students in a laboratory setting; ensure students follow all classroom and lab safety procedures; evaluate student proficiency; provide academic support; and coordinate internships with industry partners. For the remaining 50% of their time, the employee will conduct research and needs assessments to evaluate local industry demand; identify and explore new partnerships for program growth and to secure support to maintain the program; collect and report data on student career choices; conduct a needs analysis for expanding the program to second school; and prepare a second site for roll out in 2027-2028.
Phase 3: During this phase, the position will transition into a district-wide instructional role, focusing on the simultaneous delivery of electromechanical technology instruction across two communities in San Juan School District. The employee will deliver the core curriculum, manage local industry internships with partners at both school sites, and coordinate professional mentors to provide students with direct career guidance and technical feedback at both school sites.
