What is an internship RN in assisted living?

Internship RNs in Assisted Living are registered nursing students or recent graduates who are gaining hands-on experience in an assisted living facility. Their role involves working under the supervision of experienced nurses to provide basic care, assist with medication management, monitor residents’ health, and learn about the unique needs of elderly populations. These internships help nursing students apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting and develop skills critical to geriatric care. Such positions are valuable stepping stones for those interested in elderly or long-term care nursing careers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship RN in assisted living?

To thrive as an Internship RN in Assisted Living, you need foundational nursing skills, knowledge of geriatric care, and an active nursing student status or recent graduation from an accredited program. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), medication administration systems, and basic life support (BLS) certification are typically expected. Strong interpersonal communication, patience, and teamwork help interns connect with residents and collaborate with care teams. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering safe, compassionate care and supporting resident well-being in an assisted living environment.
