Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Long-term Intern (multi-semester) to join our Ethics & Compliance Department based in Herndon, VA.

Reporting to the E&C Manager, you will support a small team on various projects, learning to adapt and drive compliance processes, tools, and communications across the region. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable corporate experience while contributing to the effectiveness of Airbus' Compliance Program in the US.

Your Working Environment:

The Washington, D.C. metro area is home to multiple Airbus offices: In our nation's capital you will find the Airbus Experience Center, a collection of interactive, multimedia exhibitions highlighting the extensive role the company plays in the aviation, aerospace and defense industries in the U.S. and around the world. The D.C. area is also home to our regional corporate headquarters - located adjacent to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) - it makes flying in a breeze!

Your Challenges:

  • Assist Legal and Compliance professionals from E&C and Trade Control in identifying, preventing and remediating risk across the North American operations.

  • Undertake a range of tasks requiring thought and attention in order to meet deadlines and achieve results.

  • Help analyze risk and monitor compliance program aspects, including 3rd party engagements, gift and/or sponsorship requests, as well as potential workforce conflict of interests.

  • Learn and operate Airbus' electronic tools and process flow management to provide basic end-user guidance.

  • Monitor the status of outstanding approvals, identify bottlenecks and communicate conclusions to stakeholders.

  • Track progress and help generate qualitative and quantitative status reports on E&C matters.

  • Support conducting due diligence on 3rd parties, including customers and suppliers.

  • Prepare basic drafts of process documentation and engagement proposals.

  • Contribute positive ideas for improvements in compliance processes and departmental planning.

Your Boarding Pass:

Required:

  • Must be currently local to the Washington DC Metropolitan area as this is a long-term, onsite work opportunity

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program at a US accredited university

  • Strong interest in Ethics, Compliance, or Export Control within a corporate environment

  • High ethical standards and professional integrity

  • Dependable, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Proactive attitude with the ability to meet deadlines

  • Discrete handling of sensitive and confidential information

  • Ability to work flexibly around university schedule

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and briefly, both orally and in writing

  • Proficiency in English

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and G-Suite environment

  • Ability to work in the US without current, or future, need of visa sponsorship/work authorization is required.

Preferred:

  • Paralegal interest/experience is a plus

  • Proficiency in multiple languages

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite 80%

  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.

  • Hearing: able to hear and participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.

  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.

  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.

  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.

  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.

  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.

  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site

  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.

Ability to work in the US without current, or future, need of visa sponsorship/work authorization is required for this position.

Pay Range:

Hourly range based on the required profile: $23.25 - $34.25 depending on type of degree and year in school ranging from 1st year undergrad to Masters/graduate-level students. Actual minimum and maximum may vary based on geographic differential. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
