The Virginia Department of the Treasury is dedicated to serving the Commonwealth by providing excellent financial management and outstanding customer service.
The Department of the Treasury is currently seeking a Risk Analyst for the Division of Risk Management. The Division of Risk Management provides broad risk management and insurance services for the Commonwealth. This position is integral to fulfilling the Division's statutory responsibilities of administering risk management plans for state government, constitutional officers, political subdivisions, and other entities.
The selected candidate will manage moderate to complex loss exposures, with minimal supervision, to determine type and extent of coverage available through policy review, research and interpretation; maintain accurate financial data in the Risk Management Information System (Origami); evaluate expenditures; review, organize and evaluate voluminous documentation submissions; create presentations and trainings; thoroughly document claims activity; timely and accurately approve payments; meet with internal staff to review claims; and answer questions professionally, timely and accurately, both orally and in writing, regarding policies and procedures. In addition, the selected candidate may be tasked with reviewing activities of outside counsel, interpret statutes, determine liability, and negotiate settlements. In-state travel, including infrequent overnight travel, may also be necessary to assess claims submitted to the Department and meet with customers. This position would also assist in educational events, such as agency training, which could include public speaking.

Familiarity with reviewing a large volume of documents in a timely manner while prioritizing multiple tasks.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collegially with others.
Skill in analyzing information, assessing liability and damages, and making sound decisions.
Prior experience effectively exchanging information, verbally and in writing, with government officials, with legal, medical, and other professionals, and with the general public.
Considerable skill and proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Experience handling confidential materials and communications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Prior experience utilizing Risk Management Information Systems.
