Position Overview
The Department of Graduate Education, Leadership, and Counseling at Rider University invites applications for a full-time one-year Acting Assistant Professor position in the Counseling Programs beginning September 1, 2026. This is a full-time faculty position and is focused on teaching and service responsibilities.
Our department offers CACREP-accredited graduate programs, including Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. We seek a dynamic scholar-practitioner committed to excellence in teaching and clinical supervision, as well as professional leadership and service.
Responsibilities:
  • Teach 16 credits of master's-level counseling courses each fall and spring semester (4:4 teaching load) with summer teaching opportunities.
  • Advise and mentor graduate students.
  • Provide supervision to students during practicum and internship experiences.
  • Develop and implement curricula aligned with CACREP standards.
  • Engage in service to the department, college, university, and profession.
  • Recruit and mentor prospective students.
  • Take on leadership roles within the program and university.

Program Overview:
Rider University's MA Counseling Programs are CACREP-accredited in Counseling Services (school counseling focus) and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Students enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree can also complete a concentration in Dance Movement Therapy.
The program prides itself on a collaborative atmosphere and promotes the teaching of self- awareness as a key part of becoming a professional counselor. We seek a dedicated professional with a collaborative approach to join our dynamic and growing program.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program; ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by the start of position.
  • Clear identity as a Professional Counselor with a background in Clinical Mental Health or School Counseling.
  • Relevant professional counseling credentials (e.g., LPC, LMFT, NCC, and/or certified school counselor)
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Ability to teach CACREP core curriculum areas including introduction to counseling, group counseling, psychopathology (i.e., DSM Diagnosis), counseling theories, addictions, human growth and development, multicultural counseling, practicum, and internship.
  • Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Teaching experience at the collegiate or graduate level.
  • Experience in online, hybrid, and face-to-face teaching formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with community partners.
