The Standard's summer internship program for future actuaries provides opportunities for students to:
  • Gain exposure to the actuarial profession and the company's culture

  • Gain insight into other operational areas including IT, Underwriting, HR, Claims, and Marketing through leader lunches and speaker series

Interns will be assigned to work in one of the actuarial teams - Employee Benefits, Retirement Plans, Individual Disability Insurance, Individual Annuities, Actuarial Transformation or Corporate Actuarial and Risk Management. Assignment may include work in:

  • Monthly and quarterly financial reporting

Interns work full time during the internship. It is expected that the internship will be fully remote with an opportunity to be in the office if circumstances allow. At the end of the internship, each actuarial intern leads a presentation outlining their projects, experiences, and learnings from the summer to a group of actuarial leaders from across the organization. Interns set to graduate within a year of completing their internship will be considered for placement in the actuarial student rotation program upon graduation.
Qualifications:
  • Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students for the duration of the internship. Rising sophomores, juniors, seniors and students pursuing advanced degrees are welcome to apply
  • Sponsorship is not available for this internship opportunity
  • Preferred majors in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
  • Strong analytical skills as demonstrated by previous work experience, course of study and/or actuarial exams
  • Knowledge of MS Excel, MS Access, and/or other general programming languages such as SQL and Python

Benefits:
  • Up to three days of paid time off, plus paid holidays
  • Scheduled programming to network with actuaries and interns across the company. E.g.: Coffee with the CEO, careers workshop, etc.
  • Interns are provided equipment (i.e., laptop, monitor) needed to work from home and will virtually attend the company's First Day Orientation to gain a deeper understanding of the company

Compensation:
  • Individual pay rates will be determined based upon number of actuarial exams passed (Hourly Pay Range is between $23.50/hr and $26.50/hr)

Salary Range:
Comp Rang $24.50 - $27.00 depending on how many exams passed
