Job description

The R&D Technician performs combustion performance testing on commercial and industrial burner products that are manufactured on-site. He or she is required to document testing irregularities/performance issues with products.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of new burner products.

  • Read and understand wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.

  • Assemble burner and control panels.

  • Pipe oil lines, gas trains, feed water systems and steam headers to boilers.

  • Perform mounting and reading of test instruments, recording readings and test data with knowledge of normal parameters. Maintain well organized written reports and project records in a manner that the results can be analyzed and used by others.

  • Maintain a neat, clean, and functional work area at all times.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety rules and standards.

  • Assist other Fire Test Lab technicians with any lab, service and R & D functions as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications/Requirements

· Computer literacy; competency in use of all programs within MS Office Suite and aptitude for learning specialized software programs.

· Minimum of 2 years' experience directly involved in troubleshooting and field repair of burners/boilers.

· Individuals should possess excellent communication skills and have a strong orientation for customer focus and teamwork. Must be responsive to all customer issues. Must be willing and able to travel.

· Must be able to work safely and follow safety precautions in extreme environments (temperature, humidity, noise, confined spaces, etc.) around dangerous industrial equipment.

· The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands/fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, ascend/descend or balance to heights that may require a ladder or lift; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces; and talk or hear.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
