Internship projection mapping positions are opportunities for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in the field of projection mapping, which involves using specialized software and hardware to project images or videos onto physical surfaces, transforming them into dynamic visual displays. Interns typically assist with designing projections, setting up equipment, and creating visual content for events, performances, or installations. These internships help individuals develop technical and creative skills, often as part of a team working on real-world projects, and can serve as a stepping stone to a career in multimedia production, event design, or digital art.

What are the typical responsibilities and learning opportunities in an internship focused on projection mapping?

As a projection mapping intern, you can expect to assist with the design, setup, and calibration of visual projections on various surfaces, often working closely with creative and technical teams. You'll gain hands-on experience with specialized software and hardware, contribute to content creation, and help troubleshoot technical issues during installations or live events. This role offers valuable exposure to the intersection of art and technology, and provides opportunities to build a portfolio while learning industry-standard workflows and collaborating with professionals in multimedia production and event design.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship projection mapping specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Internship Projection Mapping role, you need a solid understanding of digital media, basic animation, and familiarity with design principles, often supported by coursework or a portfolio in visual arts or multimedia. Experience with projection mapping software (such as MadMapper or Resolume), 3D modeling tools, and video editing programs is typically required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and teamwork skills help you adapt to project demands and collaborate effectively. These competencies ensure seamless technical execution and creative impact in immersive visual experiences.

What can you do with internship projection mapping?

An internship in projection mapping involves creating visual displays by projecting images or videos onto surfaces, often requiring skills in design, programming, and the use of tools like Adobe After Effects or Resolume. Interns may assist in developing content, setting up equipment, and troubleshooting projection systems for events, advertising, or artistic installations.

Job description

Here at Siemens, we take pride in enabling sustainable progress through innovative rail technology. We do this by empowering customers through the seamless integration of the real and digital worlds - improving how we live, work, and move today and for the next generation. We believe businesses thrive when our people thrive, which is why we put our people first. Our global, diverse team will support you while challenging you to grow in new ways. Who knows where our shared journey will take you?

Who designs your future? You do.

Are you looking for a 10-12-week summer internship where you can apply your analytical skills, curiosity, and process mindset in a hands-on manufacturing environment? Do you want real-world experience improving how passenger rail vehicles are built, measured, and moved through a factory? If so, the Siemens Mobility Internship Program may be the right opportunity for you.

Siemens Mobility is seeking an Industrial Engineer Intern to support our Rolling Stock operations at our manufacturing facility.

Your Summer with Siemens Mobility

As an Industrial Engineer Intern, you will be embedded within the Industrial Engineering team, gaining direct exposure to how work is designed, measured, and improved on a live production line. You will work alongside experienced engineers, production supervisors, and technicians to study processes, analyze production data, and help implement improvements that make the line safer, faster, and more predictable.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to see how a complex, low-volume, high-mix manufacturing system actually runs, and to own a project that leaves a measurable improvement behind you.

About Siemens Mobility

Siemens Mobility provides efficient and coordinated transportation of people and goods by rail-including rolling stock, rail automation, electrification, and services. We design, manufacture, and commission commuter and regional trains, light rail vehicles, metros, locomotives, passenger coaches, and high-speed trainsets. Our work enables safe, reliable, and sustainable mobility solutions worldwide.

How Industrial Engineering Fits into the Big Picture

Industrial Engineering defines how the work gets done. The team sets standard work and station cycle times, balances the line to takt, plans layout and material flow, and builds the labor and capacity models that production and planning run on. Every hour removed from a process, every step of walking eliminated, and every ergonomic risk designed out shows up directly in the safety, quality, cost, and delivery of the vehicles we ship.

What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like

  • Conduct time studies and cycle-time analysis to build and refine standard work at assembly and test stations
  • Support line balancing, workstation layout, and material flow improvements that reduce walking, waiting, and rework
  • Help maintain routings, work instructions, and labor-hour estimates in coordination with production, planning, and quality
  • Collect and analyze production data such as throughput, downtime, and quality escapes, and turn it into clear visuals and recommendations
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities including 5S, kaizen events, value stream mapping, and ergonomic assessments on the floor

Critical Capabilities

  • Curious and comfortable on the shop floor, observing work and gathering data at the source
  • Analytical mindset with strong Excel skills and an interest in turning raw data into decisions
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing concepts such as standard work, takt time, 5S, and value stream mapping
  • Collaborative team player who can also carry a project independently from question to recommendation
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and disciplined documentation

Who Should Apply?

  • Education / Majors: Current sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a BA/BS in Industrial Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Availability: 40 hours per week from June to August
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization
  • Preferred: Prior internship, co-op, or coursework in lean manufacturing, work measurement, operations research, or process simulation
  • Demonstrated interest in transportation, manufacturing, or rail systems
  • Strong communication and critical-thinking skills; exposure to tools such as Power BI or Tableau, AutoCAD or Visio, Minitab, SAP, JDE or simulation software is a plus
