POSITION OVERVIEW:
AE Works is seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Designer to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll contribute to the design and documentation of mechanical (HVAC) systems for a wide range of building projects—from healthcare and higher education to office and mission critical facilities. 
Working under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers, you will assist in the development of construction documents, perform HVAC calculations, and coordinate with internal and external team members. This position offers a strong growth path toward licensure and project leadership, with exposure to all phases of design and delivery.
 
LOCATION:
Pittsburgh, PA or Arlington, VA with travel to client and project sites.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under direct supervision, assist in the design and layout of HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for new construction and renovation projects. 
  • Develop construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation using Revit. 
  • Perform load calculations, ventilation calculations, and other HVAC analyses. 
  • Research and apply applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, IMC, NFPA). 
  • Support senior engineers in project planning and document production. 
  • Participate in meetings, internally and externally, to collaborate with other team members and clients. 
  • Travel with team members for on-site collaboration and investigations. 


QUALIFICATIONS:
What’s Required: 
  • Associate's or bachelor’s degree in engineering or a relevant field (recent graduates with relevant internship experience will be considered) 
  • 1-5+ years of industry experience in designing mechanical systems. 
  • Skilled with using cloud based and mobile technology for collaboration. Proficiency in Revit and other relevant design software.
