Information Technology Internship - Fall 2026

Mountrail-Williams Electric Cooperative


JOB OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this position is to assist the Information Technology team in supporting and maintaining the organizations technology infrastructure and application software. This internship provides hands-on experience with computer systems, networks, and user support while learning industry best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled in an Information Systems, Computer Science, or related program.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Office applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide first-level technical support for hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of PCs, printers, and mobile devices.
  • Support IT staff in maintaining network connectivity and performing routine system checks.
  • Help with inventory management of IT equipment and documentation of configurations.
  • Participate in projects related to system upgrades, cybersecurity, and application deployment.
  • Respond to user requests in person, via phone, or through ticketing systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all MWEC security and safety policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of PC maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to follow instructions and document work clearly.
  • Time management and multitasking skills.
  • Professional attitude and customer service orientation.

BUSINESS AND RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to: Information Technology Coordinator.
Indirect Supervision: This position will work closely with IT staff and other departments to resolve technical issues.

POSITION SPECIFICATION / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position will be from August 2026 thru December 2026. Hours are negotiable up to 20 hours per week.
  • Requires frequent sitting and use of a computer keyboard.
  • Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Normal, non-smoking office environment.
  • Occasional travel within the service area.
