Your role in helping us shape the future:
We are looking for a motivated journalism student interested in joining our insurance team, which covers homeowners, life, auto, renters, pet, specialty and small business insurance. You will learn about our unique and highly respected brand of advice journalism; the tools and strategies that power a major media brand on the cutting edge of the information age; how to write and edit content for clarity, style and flow; SEO best practices; and how to produce and illustrate articles in our content management system.
The role will involve reviewing articles, updating and editing existing stories, fact-checking, developing story ideas, conducting outreach to industry experts, and creating video and graphics for social media. For the right intern, bylined writing opportunities are also possible.
Are you up to the challenge?
You should be prepared to:
  • Review articles for factual and grammatical accuracy and proper formatting.
  • Identify and catalog articles that need to be updated.
  • Update, edit and optimize older stories.
  • Help research and write insurance content and articles.
  • Create videos and other multimedia products for social media.
  • Actively and enthusiastically participate in trainings and team activities.
  • Assist with research or administrative tasks as needed.

Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Eligible candidates must be one of the following:
    • Part-time or full-time students who have completed 48+ credit hours (rising juniors/seniors and graduate students) and are enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university.
    • Part-time or full-time students enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university.
  • All candidates must be able to work a hybrid in-office work schedule from our office in Washington, D.C.
  • Fall Internship is for School Credit only.
  • You should have the following:
    • Ability to handle multiple short-term and longer-term assignments while meeting tight deadlines.
    • Sound judgment, professionalism and maturity in the workplace.
    • Sharp attention to detail with strong copy editing and fact-checking skills.
    • Effective communication skills in both written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Experience with using Google tools such as Docs, Sheets and Gemini, as well as project management tools such as AirTable
  • Interest in and/or familiarity with writing insurance content
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and tools
  • Video and graphics skills
  • Social media savvy
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
