How much do internship parametric design jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 17, 2026, the average hourly pay for internship parametric design in the United States is $19.38, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.42 and $21.63 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an internship in parametric design?

An internship in parametric design is a temporary position, often for students or recent graduates, that provides hands-on experience working with computational design tools and methodologies. Interns learn how to use software like Grasshopper or Rhino to create and manipulate complex design forms based on algorithms and data-driven parameters. The role typically involves assisting in the creation of digital models, exploring innovative architectural or engineering solutions, and collaborating with design teams. This internship helps build practical skills for a career in architecture, engineering, or related fields.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship in parametric design?

To thrive as an intern in parametric design, you need a solid grasp of architectural or engineering principles, along with experience in computational design and a relevant academic background. Familiarity with parametric modeling tools such as Grasshopper for Rhino, Autodesk Revit, and scripting languages like Python is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and effective communication help interns contribute innovative ideas and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure you can efficiently develop, analyze, and communicate complex design solutions in dynamic project environments.

What types of projects and software tools can I expect to work with during an internship in parametric design?

As an intern in Parametric Design, you’ll typically work on projects involving architectural modeling, product design, or engineering solutions that leverage computational design techniques. You’ll likely use software such as Rhino with Grasshopper, Autodesk Revit with Dynamo, or other visual programming tools to create and optimize digital models. Expect to collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and other designers, contributing to iterative processes and learning how parametric methods are applied in real-world industry workflows. This hands-on experience will help you develop both technical and teamwork skills, which are highly valued in the field.

What is the difference between Internship Parametric Design vs Junior Parametric Designer?

AspectInternship Parametric DesignJunior Parametric Designer
CredentialsEnrolled in or recent graduate of relevant design/architecture programBachelor's degree in architecture, design, or related field
Work EnvironmentInternship setting, often in architecture or design firmsEntry-level professional role in design teams
ResponsibilitiesAssisting with parametric modeling, learning software toolsCreating parametric models, supporting project development

Internship Parametric Design positions are typically temporary roles for students or recent graduates gaining experience, while Junior Parametric Designers are entry-level professionals actively contributing to projects. Interns focus on learning and assisting, whereas Junior Designers take on more responsibility in project execution.

Urban Design Analyst

FCA

Manhattan, NY

Full-time

Posted 7 days ago

Job description

FCA is seeking an entry-level Urban Design Analyst to support the spatial, analytical, and visual development of complex planning and design projects. Working under the direction of senior staff, directors, and principals, the Urban Design Analyst will contribute to building programming and conceptual design; campus, district, and large-scale planning; urban design; strategic planning; and engagement and outreach activities across a range of project types and contexts. The position involves work at multiple scales - from programming, stacking, and conceptual design for individual buildings to the planning of campuses, districts, and cities.

The Urban Design Analyst will help organize and interpret complex information and translate planning and design ideas into clear drawings, diagrams, maps, models, presentations, and reports. The role also provides opportunities to contribute to the development of standards and workflows and to explore how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, can improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of project work. Job Responsibilities Support building programming, stacking, test-fit studies, conceptual design, campus and district planning, urban design, strategic planning, and engagement and outreach efforts.

Prepare plans, maps, diagrams, models, presentations, reports, and other project deliverables. Translate spatial, quantitative, and qualitative information into clear and compelling visual narratives. Compile and coordinate drawings, graphics, data, and other project information received in multiple formats.

Organize, analyze, verify, and present project data. Develop report layouts and support the production of coordinated, visually consistent documents. Support drawing review, markup, coordination, and quality-control processes.

Communicate planning and design ideas through digital drawings and models, as well as sketches and hand drawings. Help develop, document, and consistently apply graphic standards, templates, workflows, file structures, and production methods. Research and test emerging tools and processes, including applications of artificial intelligence, that may improve the analysis, design, visualization, quality, consistency, and efficiency of project work.

Research and test tools and processes that may improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of project work. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams through in-person and remote working sessions, design reviews, workshops, and presentations. Participate actively in in-person design reviews, workshops, site visits, and collaborative production sessions.
