Job description
As a PCT on the Medical Unit, you'll support nurses in caring for patients with new-onset and chronic medical conditions, including cardiac, stroke, oncology, and post-procedure patients who require close monitoring. You'll assist with hygiene, mobility, vital signs, documentation, and provide compassionate bedside care - including support for patients nearing the end of life. Your steady presence and attention to detail help ensure patients receive safe, high-quality care.
What You'll Gain
Working on the Medical Unit gives you hands-on experience with telemetry monitoring, post-procedure recovery, mobility support, and caring for patients with a wide range of diagnoses. You'll build strong skills in vital signs, communication, teamwork, and recognizing changes in patient status. With structured orientation, supportive leadership, and a collaborative team, you'll gain confidence quickly and develop a solid foundation for future growth in nursing or other clinical roles.
What You'll Do
- Assist with bathing, oral care, toileting, and linens
- Support safe mobility, repositioning, and transfers
- Monitor and record vital signs
- Document patient information accurately
- This role includes exposure to bodily fluids and sensitive patient situations
- Safely lift/move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
The Medical Unit is a fast-paced 29-bed department caring for patients with new-onset and chronic medical conditions. With telemetry monitoring, post-procedure recovery, and strong teamwork, the unit offers an excellent foundation for building clinical skills.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within six months of hire
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of required PCT classes for the unit
