Job description

The Departments of Radiology and Psychiatry are currently seeking a talented Postdoctoral Fellow to support ongoing multidisciplinary neuroimaging research projects exploring brain structure and neural network mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric disorders, such as cognitive impairment and bipolar disorder. The successful candidate will develop and implement novel pulse sequences and reconstruction algorithms to improve the spatial-temporal resolution of dynamic MRI, thereby enhancing human brain imaging, particularly in cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) mapping and functional MRI (fMRI). As a neuroimaging research fellow at Mayo Clinic, you will be working under the direct supervision and mentorship of Dr. Yuxiang Zhang, Ph.D., and Dr. Osama A. Abulseoud, MD.

You will collect, process and analyze structural, diffusion tensor imaging and fMRI neuroimaging data with standard software such as AFNI, SPM, FreeSurfer, Matlab, and Python. Also, you  will develop new MR imaging pulse sequences on MRI scanners, adapt, and implement new imaging protocols and perform complex-valued signal modeling and statistical analysis of BOLD responses, including echo combination strategies and CO2 challenge protocols.

You will have the opportunity to develop excellent oral communication skills and present scientific work in departmental grand rounds, journal clubs, and academic seminars such as ISMRM to disseminate research findings within and outside the department. Our departments are committed to the mentorship and professional development of trainees in a collegial and supportive environment. As a research fellow, you will have the opportunity to participate in professional development activities and workshops.

A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.
