Examples of Duties
Western Water has developed the T.I.D.E.S. (Teen Internship for Development and Experience Series) program which provides current high school students the opportunity to gain hands on exposure and experience to dynamic careers in the water industry. Additionally, the program will assist interns with determining a potential education and career path based on their passions. This role provides exposure to a wide range of careers within Western Water while supporting education and skill development. This is considered a "micro-internship" which is a temporary assignment and limited to a defined internship period of three (3) weeks. The following lists are intended to be illustrative and not exhaustive:
  • Learn about public utility operations and how departments work together
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions
  • Complete special projects assigned by supervisors
  • Shadow professionals across multiple departments
  • Support team collaboration and cross-department communication
  • Build workplace skills including communication, organization, and professionalism

Additionally, based on program focus interns may experience the following:
Administration Program
  • Assist with filing, document organization, and records management
  • Support data entry and maintaining internal databases
  • Help prepare reports, spreadsheets, and presentation materials
  • Assist with scheduling meetings and coordinating calendars
  • Support customer service tasks such as responding to general inquiries
  • Help track project timelines, invoices, and department requests
  • Assist with forms and administrative workflows
  • Support communication efforts including emails, notices, and internal updates
  • Participate in team meetings and provide general office support
Operations Program
  • Assist field staff with daily operational tasks and site support
  • Help monitor maintenance schedules and service requests
  • Assist with inventory tracking for tools, supplies, and equipment
  • Support data collection related to field operations and asset management
  • Observe and assist with safety inspections and compliance checks
  • Help document operational procedures and field reports
  • Assist with fleet, facilities, or equipment coordination
  • Support project tracking for repairs, maintenance, and improvements
  • Participate in operational planning meetings and field observations

Typical Qualifications
  • A strong work ethic.
  • Desire to learn new skills.
  • Adherence to Western Water's personnel, rules, and policies.
  • Effective English usage, punctuation, grammar and spelling.
  • Must be minimum age of 16.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid CA School Work Permit.

Education: Current High School student
Required Experience: No prior work experience is required.
