Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Conducts daily practice sessions and provide tactical feedback through VOD reviews and live coaching to elevate team performance.
  • Develops game-specific playbooks, including map rotations, pick/ban strategies, and specialized champion/hero compositions for all varsity titles.
  • Performs mechanical analysis and lead 1-on-1 training sessions to improve player-specific skills such as aim, pathing, and reaction time.
  • Leads opponent scouting efforts by researching rival team tendencies and previous match data to create actionable game plans.
  • Analyzes game patch notes and professional circuit trends to ensure team strategies remain current with the shifting competitive "meta."
  • Implements sports psychology techniques to manage team "tilt," improve communication clarity, and enhance high-pressure performance.
  • Facilitates post-match debriefs to manage team morale and identify immediate areas for strategic improvement.
  • Assists with the technical maintenance of the IU East Esports Arena, including PC hardware troubleshooting, driver updates, and peripheral repairs.
  • Co-manages the program's Discord server, ensuring organized communication channels and maintaining a professional community environment.
  • Directs match-day operations, including tournament check-ins, lobby creation, and official score reporting.
  • Aides in supervision of student broadcast crews for Twitch and YouTube streams, providing direction for casters, observers, and production technicians.
  • Monitors inventory of all university-owned equipment, peripherals, and team-issued apparel.
  • Assists Head Coach in management of student-worker schedules for arena monitoring, social media content creation, and equipment checkout.
  • Advocates for technological needs and negotiate hardware refresh cycles in collaboration with the University IT department.
  • Assists in scouting high school talent, reviewing prospect VODs, and maintaining a robust recruitment database.
  • Monitors student-athlete academic progress through regular grade checks, correspondence with faculty, and supervision of mandatory study halls.
  • Assists the Head Coach in the evaluation and selection of rosters during annual tryouts and walk-on evaluations.
  • Represents Red Wolves Esports at open houses, orientations, and community gaming events to drive student engagement and enrollment.
  • Serves as a secondary point of contact for prospective student-athletes and their families, communication program expectations, scholarship requirements, and the overall student-athlete experience.
  • Supports student-athletes in career placement and identify internship opportunities.
  • Partners with the Head Coach to enforce the student-athlete handbook and the Indiana University East code of conduct.
  • Monitors the physical health of players by conducting ergonomic audits and promoting wellness protocols for wrist, eye, and back health.
  • Assists in the execution of on-campus events, such as high school invitational tournaments and summer gaming camps.
  • Participates in conference-wide meetings to stay informed on evolving collegiate Esports regulations and industry standards.
General Responsibilities
  • Complies fully with all ECAC, applicable athletic conference, and Indiana University rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Assists the Head Coach in the development of a competitive, successful program that represents Indiana University positively and responsibly. Foster a positive team culture that supports student-athletes in achieving both academic and athletic success.
  • Develops instructional plans for individual student-athletes and the team as a whole, addressing specialized development needs and performance goals identified by the coaching staff.
  • Assists the Head Coach in supporting the academic, personal, and athletic development of student-athletes through mentorship, leadership, and counseling in areas including academics, citizenship, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
  • Organizes and manages assigned recruiting efforts and administrative responsibilities.
  • Represents the team, department, and University in a positive, professional and ethical manner; respond appropriately to media, marketing, fundraising and community service requests, as assigned.
  • Exhibits professionalism in a manner consistent with the missions and goals of Indiana University, applicable athletic conference, and the NAIA.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Requried
  • Experience working or competing in Esports
  • Strong technical knowledge of PC hardware, Windows OS, and gaming peripherals.
  • Proficiency with streaming software (OBS), Discord, and tournament platforms.
Preferred
  • Previous coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, or semi-professional level.
  • Experience in digital content creation, broadcast production, or social media management.
  • Familiarity with ECAC regulations.
SKILLS
Required
  • A strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and a working knowledge of ECAC rules and regulations.
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.

  • Ability to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the university, ECAC, and the NAIA.
  • Ability to recruit, coach, and teach highly talented student athletes.
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires sedentary work as well as durations of moving around the workplace. This role frequently requires the ability to handle or operate objects, controls, or tools listed above. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This role may include coaching in hot and cold indoor facilities, and exposure to elements such as fumes, inadequate lighting, glare, awkward working position, dust, etc. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
