Overview
About the Role
The primary purpose of the Medical Records Technician (Document Imaging) position is to prepare documents for, scan documents into and accurately index paper medical records using the electronic document imaging system so they are available electronically for all patient needs.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
  • Picks up paper medical records from entire University Hospital campus when assigned and as needed while maintaining
    confidentiality standards and following all department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Assures all records picked up are indexed within 12 hours of pick up.
  • Confirms patient name, medical record number, and account number on paper medical record to be imaged.
  • As records are being indexed, views the scanned images on the screen to confirm all images can be read and are properly
    aligned.
  • Performs basic medical record release function or ensures that records are provided in a timely manner as needed to cover in
    the absence of Release of Information staff.

Qualifications
What You'll Bring
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in medical records-related work required; or
    • Completion of at least one (1) year and continued enrollment in a Health Information Management (HIM) or Health Information Technology (HIT) program may be substituted for the required experience.

  • Prior experience with a medical records encoder (Clintegrity 360) and Epic electronic health record system preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to perform job duties, follow directions, and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of computers and internet navigation required.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office applications, particularly:
    • Excel
    • Outlook
    • Shared file systems

  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and organization.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.

Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)
In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly range for this position is TC/1875: Probationary Rate $28.32- Job Rate $28.82- Two (2) Year Rate $29.68.
