Job Summary
Position Overview
Environmental Specialties is seeking a motivated entry-level Electrical & Controls Engineer to join our engineering team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate looking to launch their career in industrial automation and controls. You will work directly with senior engineers to support the design, development, and commissioning of sophisticated control systems for high-precision environmental chambers, while also contributing to new product development initiatives.
This is a hands-on role spanning the full project lifecycle, from initial electrical schematics and panel design through final functional testing and customer delivery.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Electrical Design: Develop and maintain electrical schematics and panel layouts for industrial control systems using AutoCAD and EPlan, including supporting EPlan workflow development and deployment.
  • PLC & HMI Development: Participate in the development, testing, and troubleshooting of PLC logic.
  • Electromechanical Controls: Apply knowledge of electromechanical control systems, including relays, contactors, motor starters, and associated wiring practices used in industrial chamber applications.
  • Standards & Compliance: Learn and apply industry-standard electrical codes, including UL 508A (Industrial Control Panels) and the NEC (National Electrical Code).
  • Hardware Integration: Support the configuration and troubleshooting of industrial controls.
  • Documentation: Generate and maintain project documentation including electrical schematics, bill of materials (BOM), and functional test protocols to ensure high-quality delivery to clients.
  • Testing & Commissioning: Create documentation for and perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Experience: Prior internship or co-op experience in an engineering environment is preferred. Candidates with demonstrated hands-on project experience, such as work with microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), embedded systems, 3D printing, or similar maker and prototyping platforms, are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Troubleshooting Aptitude: Experience diagnosing and resolving electrical or programming issues, whether in a professional, academic, or project setting, is a plus.
  • Software Skills: Exposure to CAD software and a working understanding of programming logic (C, Python, Ladder Logic, or similar).
  • Detail Oriented: Strong organizational skills and a disciplined approach to technical documentation and data management consistent with professional engineering standards.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating within a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
