Rural Healthcare Internship

Summary

Applicants are required to submit a one-page paper along with resume explaining their interest in interning with the organization, including their career goals and how this experience aligns with their aspirations in healthcare. This internship offers an exciting opportunity for motivated high school juniors or seniors, and currently enrolled college students pursuing healthcare degrees, to gain firsthand experience within a dynamic rural healthcare organization. As a Rural Healthcare Intern, you will collaborate closely with various clinical team members, assisting with essential tasks while developing a comprehensive understanding of healthcare operations and patient care within a rural context. You will gain insight into the health system's overarching mission, encompassing its brand and the diverse needs of patients, residents, and clients across various service lines in a rural setting. Furthermore, you will contribute to enhancing patient care by undertaking a meaningful project within a clinical department.

Job Duties
  • Participating in rotations across various clinical departments to gain exposure to different healthcare settings.
  • Collaborating closely with an assigned mentor to complete tasks efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring efficient patient flow by preparing and pulling patient charts.
  • Providing safe and comfortable transport for patients, residents, and clients.
  • Maintaining organized and welcoming patient rooms through cleaning, restocking supplies, and preparation.
  • Contributing to data-driven care by accurately collecting healthcare data.
  • Facilitating timely diagnostics by transporting laboratory specimens.
  • Providing social and emotional support by offering companionship to patients and residents.
  • Adhering to strict confidentiality guidelines regarding patient information.
  • Supporting patient well-being by assisting with nutritional services.
  • Enhancing quality of life by supporting therapeutic activities.
  • Developing foundational clinical knowledge by assisting with diagnostics under supervision.
  • Completing a project aimed at improving patient care processes or outcomes.
Required Education and Experience

Must be currently enrolled as a junior or senior in high school OR actively pursuing a postsecondary healthcare degree with an expected graduation date beyond 2025 OR currently enrolled in a college program not graduating in 2025.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Temporary, part-time internship (10-20 hours per week) from May 26, 2026 through September 1, 2026.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.


Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods. Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to [25-50] pounds with or without assistance and safely assist with patient transport and movement, following proper training and safety guidelines.
