The Opportunity

The Associate Accountant is an entry-level member of the Corporate Accounting team, supporting accurate and timely financial reporting and general ledger activities. Working under the guidance of senior accountants and accounting leadership, this role helps complete routine accounting tasks, learns Valvoline's policies and controls, and contributes to continuous improvement across close and reporting processes.


How You'll Make an Impact

In this role, you will:

  • Assist with preparing and recording journal entries and supporting month-end and quarter-end close activities under supervision
  • Assist with balance sheet account reconciliations and help research differences and variances
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support general ledger accuracy for assigned accounts and processes
  • Support internal and external audits by compiling schedules, evidence, and documentation
  • Learn and follow U.S. GAAP basics, SOX control requirements, and Valvoline accounting policies
  • Collaborate with Finance partners (e.g., AP, Tax, FP&A) to help resolve routine accounting questions and items
  • Look for ways to improve efficiency and accuracy (templates, checklists, standard work) and suggest enhancements to the team
  • Complete ad hoc reporting, data pulls, and special projects, as assigned


What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
  • 0-2 years of relevant accounting experience (internship/co-op and/or early career experience welcomed)
  • Foundational understanding of accounting principles and interest in learning U.S. GAAP in a corporate environment
  • Exposure to journal entries, account reconciliations, and close activities (through coursework or experience) is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP) preferred
  • Experience with an ERP system (SAP S/4HANA a plus), but not required
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams

Nice to Have

  • Interest in pursuing CPA certification (or progress toward CPA eligibility)
  • Exposure to internal controls and/or SOX concepts (coursework or experience)
  • Exposure to a multi-entity or publicly traded organization (internship or early career)
