Job description

Purpose and Scope
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
To provide direct services for assigned schools; assist in the intervention process as a member of the Student Support Team; perform individual psychological observations, evaluations, and assessment for referred students; explain the results of these evaluations to parents and other team members; participate in implementation of Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI2); provide consultation to educational staff; and promote compliance with state and federal regulations. The School Psychologist applies knowledge of psychology, education, and child development to provide competent and ethical services consistent with standards established by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).
Essential Job Functions
This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the primary job elements.
  1. Collaborates/consults with school personnel regarding student academic concerns
  2. Reviews records or outside evaluations to determine ongoing psych evaluation needs
  3. Participates in S-Team and IEP meetings to obtain relevant information from parents, schools staff, and available records to determine need for psycho-educational evaluation.
  4. Insures compliance with State and Federal IDEA guidelines
  5. Conducts classroom observations
  6. Provides diagnostic assessment services in the area of intelligence, personality, sensory motor, achievement, and adaptive behavior to students with suspected exceptional educational needs.
  7. Completes clearly written and comprehensive reports which provide practical recommendations
  8. Coordinates with school staff to implement school wide Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI2) program development, implementation, and evaluation
  9. Attends professional development training
  10. Provides consultation to other professionals within the district
  11. Provides professional training to school personnel
  12. Serves on school program committees
  13. Assumes responsibility for management of records in accordance with federal regulations set forth by Family and Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  14. Maintains responsibility for obtaining clinical supervision
  15. Supervises university trainees
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed

Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree (including Educational Specialist) or above in Psychology (clinical, educational, school) from a university psychology or educational psychology department that is NASP or APA approved or equivalent including completion of internship. TN Department of Education School Psychologist License or TN Department of Health: Senior Psychological Examiner or Psychologist, Health Service Provider
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor's Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master's Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master's degrees are required, years for Bachelor's Degrees must be included.
