Job description

Job Description This is a non-merit internship position. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section. Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

5th District, Department of Corrections has an exciting Human Resources/Talent Development internship opportunity for Fall 2026. This role offers hands-on experience in the employee lifecycle by supporting talent development, onboarding, and more. Please note that these internship opportunities are unpaid.

Key Responsibilities practical experience in talent acquisition and onboarding processes within an HR environment work closely with HR staff to help ensure a smooth, positive candidate and new-hire experience Schedule interviews and coordinate communications between candidates, HR, and managing supervisor/mentor Assist with processing paperwork and coordinating orientation Qualifications Must be 18 years of age and have completed at least two years of college by the start of the internship Must be currently enrolled at an accredited educational institution Comfortable being in a criminal justice environment Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion High ethical standards and professional judgment Self-driven and accountable Flexible and open to change Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders Positive attitude and commitment to customer service Internship Details Hours: Flexible based on student needs Location: Des Moines Start Date: September 2026 Pay: Unpaid (professional experience and portfolio-building opportunities) NOTE: Applications with no resume and/or transcript will not be considered.
