TheChristiana HospitalImaging Department is currently recruiting for a Full-Time Radiology Information Systems Specialist to support all of the Delaware acute imaging locations (Newark, Wilmington, Middletown ED).

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

  • Responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and supporting the databases and systems that power Radiology operations. This role ensures accuracy of imaging data, CPT and charge-related configuration, modality/system interfaces, and overall system performance. The Specialist performs database maintenance, system enhancements, upgrades, testing/validation, and troubleshooting across PACS, RIS, EHR, and related imaging platforms.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain, update, and optimize radiology databases, including exam codes, CPT mappings, procedure dictionaries, modality protocols, and workflow tables.
  • Monitor data integrity, prevent data corruption, and resolve discrepancies in study attributes (e.g., accession numbers, MRN, date/time, exam description).
  • Manage configuration for PACS/RIS/VNA, including routing rules, hanging protocols, display sets, and modality worklist parameters.
  • Ensure accurate mapping between Radiology systems and the EHR for orders, results, and CPT/charge flows.
  • Lead planning, testing, and implementation of system enhancements, upgrades, new releases, and patches.
  • Perform structured validation (unit, integration, regression, and UAT testing) for all upgrades impacting Radiology systems.
  • Document change impacts and collaborate with IT and vendor resources for technical implementation.
  • Provide post-upgrade stabilization support and end-user education.
  • Troubleshoot database issues, workflow errors, and system outages related to PACS/RIS/EHR interfaces.
  • Investigate and resolve DICOM routing issues, interface failures, and MWL/MPPS exceptions.
  • Manage study reconciliation (duplicate exams, mismatches, incorrect identifiers).
  • Monitor radiology volumes, modality productivity, turnaround times, and repeat/reject trends.
  • Support data extraction for audits, quality projects, regulatory reporting, and operational dashboards.
  • Validate CPT accuracy, documentation completeness, and charge integrity in partnership with Coding/Revenue Integrity.
  • Maintain up-to-date system documentation, SOPs, and configuration records.
  • Provide advanced technical support to radiologists, technologists, and operational staff.
  • Train end-users on system changes, workflows, and new features.
  • Create job aids, workflow guides, and quick-reference materials.
  • Maintain HIPAA-compliant access controls, audit trails, and data protection practices.
  • Support internal audits related to CPT accuracy, charge capture workflows, and PHI handling.
  • Works with Information Services staff to analyze and develop solutions to users' problems while providing support of clinical systems including, but not limited to RIS, PACS, Powerchart, Powerscribe, HIS, Orders, Digital Dictation, CR/DR, Digital Imaging and Practice Management System.
  • Reviews CPT codes and ICD9 for procedure changes in the RIS system.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Information Systems, Radiologic Technology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years of experience working with Radiology systems such as PACS, RIS, VNA, or Radiology modules within an EHR (e.g., Epic Radiant, Cerner RadNet).
  • Working knowledge of DICOM, HL7, modality worklists, MPPS, and imaging workflow fundamentals.
  • Experience with database structures, master file dictionaries, and system configuration.
  • Strong analytic, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday Day shift
  • No weekends or holidays
  • Location: Newark Campus (Can be a hybrid role)

Annual Compensation Range $85,862.40 - $137,384.00This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
