Summary

Department: Oncology Unit

Shift Timings: 18:45-07:15 Hours Monday to Friday 3 days 12 hours shift

Per Week: 36 Hours

​Unit Capacity: 24 Beds, one lead lined room suitable for radiation isolation Population Served: Patients with the following diagnosis: Solid tumors (most frequently lung, breast, colon)/Leukemia, Lymphomas, Myeloma/Gynecologic malignancies (primarily ovarian and cervical)/Cancer symptom management/Febrile Neutropenia/Uncontrolled pain/Sickle Cell Anemia/Hematologic diseases/Post operative Mastectomy/Post operative Gynecological Oncology/Med/Surg overflow Ages of Patients Served: Young Adult through Late Adult (18 - 60+) Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:6 Core Staffing Plan: Variable staffing grid to include: Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), Nurse Interns (NIs). An RN assumes full responsibility for the patients on each team. Staffing Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification OCN certification is strongly encouraged​​


Roles & Responsibilities
  • ​​Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
