Job description

Description:

This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with different iterations of Museum programming for family audiences, both on site at the NCMA and off-site during outreach activities. The intern works with the Manager of Family Programs and other colleagues in the Outreach and Audience Engagement Department to support the NCMA to Go Art Kits project, which includes the design and production of make-and-take art kits as well as hands-on art outreach statewide.


The intern learns about project management from inception to execution and supports outreach programs associated with projects. The intern assists the Manager of Family Programs and Programs Assistant with research and prototyping projects for NCMA to Go, works with volunteers and manages materials during kit production weeks, assists with shipping and recordkeeping, and contributes support for outreach and special program development. This internship is ideal for students passionate about arts education, art history, event planning, and community engagement.


In general, the schedule is 28 hours per week every other month beginning September 2026, with some weekend hours expected. Schedule is flexible around production-heavy weeks.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, packing, and shipping of NCMA to Go Art Kits.
  • Manage the work of dozens of volunteers supporting the project.
  • Oversee shipping logistics and recordkeeping related to the project.
  • Travel off site to partner locations to support family outreach programs.
  • Work with Outreach and Audience Engagement staff on prototyping, designing, writing, editing, and other related administrative tasks.
Requirements:
  • Current college student or recent graduate with a focus on art history, education, studio art, or arts administration.
  • Comfort and ease working with repetitive tasks and organization
  • Passion for art education for all ages
  • Experience with writing for young audiences
  • Above-average attention to detail, sense of humor, and ability to multitask
  • Familiarity with art-making techniques, mediums, and design thinking a plus
