Job description

Description
The primary purpose of this position is to work alongside our GIS team staff supporting GIS activities and projects including map production, data collection, creating documentation, maintaining and supporting GIS applications, as well as assisting with new GIS applications.
Pay range for this position is $20.00/hr. WaterOne's summer internship program runs from May 17, 2027 until August 6, 2027.
Essential Functions

  • Assists GIS staff with planning, designing, implementing, and supporting Web GIS and Mobile GIS applications in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.
  • Provides timely response and establishes high priority for GIS map and analysis requests.
  • Compiles, attributes, converts, edits, and maintains data in geographic and operational databases and their associated documentation.
  • Collects data in the field including using GPS equipment and assisting with Drone data collection missions.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining GIS database quality control and quality assurance procedures.
  • Provides support of integration between GIS and other non-spatial applications such as SAP and SCADA.
  • Upholds GIS system integrity, security, and confidentiality.

Required Education & Experience
  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program at a regionally accredited college or university with in GIS, Geography, Computer Science or Engineering. Completion of at least 60 credit hours with at least 15 credit hours of relevant upper division coursework.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to commit to a 12-week internship program.
  • Knowledge of and experience with ArcGIS Desktop and/or ArcGIS Pro.
  • Experience using Windows PCs and Microsoft 365 including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of spatial data management and analysis concepts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical, cartographic mapping, spatial analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background verification in accordance with WaterOne standards.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and/or ArcGIS Online.
  • Experience using GPS technology to collect feature locations.
  • Experience using communication/collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally lift/or move up to 5 pounds and 10 pounds rarely. This position will frequently work in outdoor weather conditions. Occasionally work inside and outside WaterOne facilities and structures. Outside working conditions are dependent on the weather, which involves extreme heat (above 90 degrees) in the summer and cold in the winter (below freezing). Some work may be in non-heated and non-air-conditioned structures. Rarely perform field assignments in poor weather and driving conditions and deal with other hazards of field work. Rarely has toleration of noise levels that are generally minimal but may be excessive for brief periods of time (hearing protection is provided.
The position requires frequent use of a computer and standard office equipment, such as a copier and telephone. Candidates must be able to move between different work locations as needed and wear personal protective equipment when visiting or navigating construction sites.

The work environment for this position is a typical office setting.
