General Summary
The College of Aviation at Western Michigan University invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track faculty position. The College offers three distinct academic programs, providing faculty members the opportunity to teach within a specialized area of expertise or across multiple disciplines. Applicants will join a supportive and collegial environment that values collaboration among students, faculty, and staff. This position represents an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a dynamic academic community and to bring professional flight experience into the classroom to enhance student learning.
Major Duties
  • Teach up to 12 credits in the fall and spring semesters for a total of no more than 24 credits of regularly scheduled courses, or the equivalent, over an academic year.
  • Fulfill ongoing department curriculum needs of both a maintenance and developmental nature.
  • Provide leadership and service to academic and professional societies through roles in governance, editorial work, conference coordination, and committee participation to support their effective and impactful operation.
  • Support university operations through committee service and consultation with campus and community stakeholders.
  • Assist students with course advising, consulting, and individual mentoring.
  • Encourage and support student involvement in student organizations and internships.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research, writing, and publication appropriate to the faculty member's discipline or interdisciplinary work.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an aviation-related field from an accredited institution.
  • FAA pilot certification to include a minimum ATP or equivalent.
  • Significant related industry experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Airline Flight Operations
    • Corporate/Business Aviation Flight Operations
    • Safety
    • Security
    • Human Factors
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • College teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated history of research and grant writing.
