The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.
The Cybersecurity Intern will assist the Cybersecurity team in identifying, assessing, and reducing cybersecurity risks across the organization. Primary responsibilities will focus on vulnerability management, external attack surface management, and cybersecurity awareness initiatives. The intern will gain hands-on experience with cybersecurity tools, risk analysis, security operations, and enterprise security programs while helping improve the organization's overall security posture.

Internship Overview:
  • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 9/8/26-12/11/2626
  • Location: Must be located in Dallas, TX or the immediate surrounding area.
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities
Tasks could include things like the following:
  • Assist with vulnerability management activities, including identifying, analyzing, tracking, and reporting security vulnerabilities across technology environments.
  • Support cybersecurity risk reduction efforts through research, data analysis, and security assessments.
  • Assist in the review and analysis of security findings and remediation activities.
  • Help develop metrics, reports, and dashboards to communicate cybersecurity trends and risk posture.
  • Research emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to the documentation of cybersecurity processes, standards, procedures, and operational workflows.
  • Assist with cybersecurity awareness initiatives, including the creation of educational content and communications that promote safe security practices.
  • Support cybersecurity projects and initiatives designed to strengthen the organization's overall security posture.
  • Participate in team meetings, project discussions, and cross-functional collaboration efforts.
  • Perform additional cybersecurity-related research, analysis, and administrative tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
  • College Seniors and Graduate students studying Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields are preferred.
  • An understanding of key technology concepts such as access control, confidential data, encryption, business continuity, networking concepts, vulnerability management, cybersecurity principles, and cloud computing,
  • Familiarity and experience with Common Vulnerability and Exposure (CVE), cybersecurity frameworks, vulnerability scanning tools (server, cloud, and application, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organize information and document findings clearly
  • Be receptive to guidance from manager and able to effectively communicate results to manager.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with leaders, stakeholders and training coordinators.
  • Ability to be highly productive, both working alone and as part of a team.
  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi connection.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 9 am-5 pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
