Description of Work
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Office of Undergraduate Research & Fellowships (URAF) supports students in their pursuit of undergraduate research, nationally competitive fellowships, and creative activity. We are seeking an experienced leader who is excited to help students identify and pursue pathways into research and other high-impact experiences and to encourage and support students to leverage their academic and co-curricular experiences to apply for nationally competitive fellowships. The URAF Director reports to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Undergraduate Education and serves on the Undergraduate Education and Student Success Team.
The URAF Director is responsible for supporting the development of UNL's undergraduate research ecosystem with campus partners. This work includes developing strategic plans, tools, and structures for encouraging and supporting student engagement with undergraduate research and fellowships and serving as UNL's institutional representative for appropriate national organizations. The Director coordinates internal application review and selection committee efforts for fellowships (Fulbright, Goldwater, Boren, etc.) and the UCARE and FYRE programs, including identifying faculty participants for committee service and facilitating the UCARE and FYRE award-making processes. In addition, the Director supervises the URAF team and manages program budgetary resources.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree and three (3) years' experience in supporting students' success in high-impact programs such as undergraduate research, learning communities, honors, fellowship and/or scholarship programs.
  • Experience with education program development, implementation, & assessment.
  • Experience providing written guidance and/or feedback to students on proposal and personal statement essay writing.
  • Experience collaborating with campus partners including, faculty, chairs, and deans or other educational leaders.
  • Experience supervising, training, or mentoring student workers or interns.
  • Knowledge of the specialized requirements of proposal writing and personal essay writing associated with nationally competitive competitions.
  • Must have excellent writing, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least five years' progressive experience supporting students' success in high-impact programs such as undergraduate research, learning communities, honors, fellowship and/or scholarship programs.
  • Experience providing feedback and guidance on competitive fellowship and/or graduate application processes or related preferred.
  • Experience with leadership, implementation, and assessment of undergraduate research or fellowship programs or similar high-impact practice programs (application processes, training, funding, etc.).
  • Experience supervising staff.
