This is a 12-month, full-time exempt position.


Schedule: Mon-Fri, plus some evenings and weekends, and on-call responsibilities related to communications


Function of Position

The Social & Multimedia Specialist plans, creates, and delivers strategic campaigns and collateral that reaches key audiences and meets marketing and communications objectives. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communication and working closely with the marketing team and campus partners, particularly the Offices of Admission and Advancement. This position maximizes the performance of Cheshire Academy's social media channels, multimedia video content, and graphic design and branding using current and emerging tools, technology, and methods. 


Primary Responsibilities

The Social & Multimedia Specialist is responsible for utilizing best practices and employing marketing trends to build a content calendar and execute the creation and production of compelling multimedia content across various platforms. This includes but is not limited to: social media content & campaigns; video production and editing, both short- and long-form, from traditional horizontal video for brand-building and corporate communications to vertical social media video; graphic design for digital and print purposes; photography; and occasional website editing optimized for user experience (UX).


Social Media

  • Design, create, post, monitor, and report on all social media for the school, with particular support for Admissions/Enrollment and Advancement efforts.
  • Create and maintain a content calendar based on key dates and institutional goals
  • Develop, edit, post content regularly, coordinated but unique per platform and audience
  • Support and educate other departments (Admission, Advancement, Athletics, Arts, Community Life) in their use of Academy-related social media and ensure compliance with guidelines and best practices
  • Oversee and coordinate the department's student social media internship program, holding meetings and guiding interns in creating user-generated-style content (UGC) from a student perspective in support of the Academy's mission and goals
  • Respond promptly to crisis communications and address emergent issues on social media, during "off hours" as needed, and evaluate and maintain resolution procedures
  • Employ tools and tactics for digital community management, responding promptly to community messages and comments
  • Maintain, develop, and advance the school's brand voice consistently across platforms
  • Track, analyze, and report on performance across platforms, adjusting strategy as needed based on data; run and analyze reports for the Director for Board meetings

Video Production

  • Produce both traditional and social media video content including Head of School communications, Academy initiatives, program announcements and promotional content, student and alumni highlights, and more, with a strategic focus on storytelling in support of the school's mission, differentiators, and strategic plan
  • Own the production process, from storyboarding, collaborating on scripts as needed, filming, editing, and launching
  • Stay apprised to the latest camera technologies and continually work to keep content fresh

Graphic Design

  • Create print and/or digital admission- and advancement-related fact sheets and collateral, flyers, advertisements, infographics, email headers, print banners, social media graphics, imagery for enrollment or fundraising campaigns, motion graphics for video, logos for sub-brands, co-branding, and new initiatives, and more utilizing the latest technological tools - in alignment with the Academy's brand and style

Digital Marketing & Web Content

  • Alongside the Director, act as a liaison to digital marketing, website, and print vendors to make strategic choices in support of enrollment and advancement efforts
  • As needed, make updates to the website including uploading media, publishing blogs and news stories, and making corrections to webpages
  • Occasional assistance with building and sending email communications.

Other Duties


Considering the nature of a role in social media, and understanding that working at a boarding school sometimes requires additional responsibilities;

  • Evening and weekend assignments
  • May include athletic and school event photography and video, digital marketing input and tracking, web content management, and email design.
  • Engage with the community and is present in the daily life of the school, ensuring authentic communications about culture, community, events, achievement and programs of Cheshire Academy.
  • Other responsibilities as needed and set forth by the Director and, ultimately, the Head of School.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in digital marketing, communications, advertising, or related field
  • 1-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, and/or digital media, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with hands-on proficiency in the applicable tools, technologies, and processes
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, creative team environment in marketing and communications; experience working collaboratively on a small team a plus
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working for private schools or higher education preferred
  • Strong understanding of marketing principles for reputation building, admissions, recruiting, and fundraising
  • Alignment with Cheshire Academy's mission and core values of belonging, engagement, collaboration, and growth

Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiencies in social media platforms such as Instagram, Meta/Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, and others, as well as social media editing software like CapCut); Final Cut Pro, iMovie, Adobe Premiere, or similar; graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign, Illustrator, etc.; Canva); Microsoft Office/Outlook
  • Knowledge of and experience with audio technologies and tools for video
  • Comfort and experience with advanced AI multimedia tools and applications; ability to keep the school at the forefront of digital tools
  • Creative thinking skills; consistently finding ways to extend content and repackage in unique ways across platforms
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress and Elementor, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms such as FinalSite (SchoolAdmin), Blackbaud, or Slate; email communication platforms such as Constant Contact or MailChimp a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work with, synthesize, summarize, and present complex data
  • Detail-oriented; possesses superior organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects while working effectively to set schedules, meet competing deadlines, and respond to changing needs and priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders, students, and colleagues at all levels; integrity, warmth, flexibility, confidence, positive outlook, and a willingness to assist beyond the role
