Glass Process Design Engineer
Norcross, GA
JOB PURPOSE:
Provide core rod and preform design engineering for controlling optical fiber properties through the VAD and OVD processes. Work with internal teams and external suppliers to match core properties with overclad material to optimize core, preform, and optical fiber yields. Support daily operation of core and preform analyzer equipment to meet production targets and drive continuous improvement. Responsible for the utilization of data feedback across multiple departments to maintain high product quality and output.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Manufacturing or industrial experience of >5 years

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)
  • Strong programming knowledge in Java, C+, Python, etc.
  • Black Belt in Statistical Analysis
  • Database experience in SQL or equivalent
  • MS degree or above in Electrical engineering or equivalent

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Core design for overclad matching VAD core products
  • Set VAD core design targets (product type & optical properties) based on demand forecasts
  • Provide daily engineering support of core and preform analyzers
  • Able to create, utilize, and maintain optimization systems
  • Maintain internal core and preform inventory control
  • Support global needs for core rod design FEM analysis
  • Implement new process and new product developments
  • Create & maintain daily production reports
  • Create & maintain Engineering reports & web pages
  • Six Sigma Black Belt representative for OVD group
  • Team leader in database navigation and querying for ensuring product quality, operational output, and timely problem solving
  • Provides a collaborative learning environment within the manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering organizations
  • Supports daily equipment troubleshooting requirements to meet production targets and drives continuous improvement

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  • Strong computer and software programming
  • Detailed understanding of finite element modeling methods
  • Strong statistical analysis methodology
  • Ability to efficiently summarize data in database system, to generate production and engineering web based reports
  • Superior technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical and chemical systems in industrial applications and integration
  • Ability to apply a multidiscipline international approach to process development and problem solving
  • Strong communication skills with proven ability to work with a diverse team of technical and non-technical staff
  • Excellent documentation and presentation skills
