Position Summary:

Fusion is seeking a motivated entry-level Electrical Engineer with an active TS to support secure, mission-critical building and infrastructure projects for federal clients in the National Capital Region. The selected candidate will assist with electrical system design, coordination, and review for secure facilities, with exposure to power distribution, lighting, grounding, emergency power, and control systems across both vertical and horizontal construction environments.


This role offers hands-on experience working alongside senior engineers and project managers to develop design documents, review field conditions, and ensure compliance with DoD, UFC, NEC, and secure-facility requirements.


Key Responsibilities:


Design and Technical Review

  • Assist in preparing and reviewing electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and equipment layouts while developing technical skills alongside experienced engineers.
  • Contribute to electrical system calculations and layout development.
  • Assist in commissioning activities, functional testing, and development of as-built documentation.
  • Support design of power distribution, lighting, grounding, emergency power, and low-voltage systems.


Field and Site Work

  • Provide field engineering support, including construction observation and equipment installation checks.
  • Verify conduit routing, electrical room layouts, and installed conditions against design intent.

Security, Codes, and Compliance

  • Gain experience applying NEC requirements, UFC criteria, DoD standards, and secure-facility electrical design guidelines.
  • Support design and construction activities to ensure alignment with applicable codes, policies, and security requirements.


Project and Coordination Support

  • Participate in internal and external coordination meetings.
  • Assist in reviewing contractor submittals, RFIs, red-line drawings, and related documentation.
  • Support multidisciplinary coordination with architectural, mechanical, civil, and structural teams.


Work Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Ability towork in high-security environmentsrequiringstrict access controls and security protocols
  • Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including nearhigh-voltage switchgear and substations
  • Requireslifting/carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces
  • Occasional travel to other sites or campuses as needed.


Qualifications & Requirements:


Required Experience & Education

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Internship, co-op, or academic project experience in building power systems, lighting, or electrical design preferred
  • Exposure to power distribution, grounding, controls, lighting, or electrical building systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work safely on active construction sites and comply with PPE requirements
  • Interest in supporting federal, DoD, and secure-facility electrical projects


Certifications & Technical Skills

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or eligibility within 612 months of hire (preferred)
  • Basic proficiency or exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM tools for electrical design and coordination
  • Familiarity with electrical load calculations, conduit and cable tray layout, short-circuit analysis, and panel design
  • Foundational understanding of NEC requirements, equipment grounding and bonding, and lighting/controls design principles
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Exposure to UFC, DoD, or secure electrical design standards (preferred)
  • Familiarity with generators, UPS systems, or lighting protection systems (preferred)

Security Clearance Requirements

  • Candidates must have an active security clearance. TS preferred.
