Job description

    POSITION TITLE:  Accounting Intern for Fall 2026 Semester

    Hours: 10-16 hours per week, schedule is flexible and open for possible continuation during Spring semester.  Internship opportunity can be extended beyond the current semester and has the potential to led to full-time employment. This is a paid internship.

    Reports To:  Director of Finance

    Job Summary: 

    Position is ideal for a student that is pursuing a BS in Accounting to gain a broad range of practical work experience.  The agency has partnered with local universities for over 15 years and has helped candidates successfully develop and further their professional careers.  College course credit may be available for the internship experience.  Our offices are conveniently located close to both East Tennessee State University and Milligan University.


    This position includes general accounting functions of the Agency as may be required by federal, state and local authorities:  e.g., accounts payable, inventory control, preparing spread sheets, and financial reports. This position is also responsible for providing financial information to management for planning and decision making by studying past, present and anticipated financial conditions. Serves as backup for daily money receipts.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Prepare vouchers – checking receipts for accuracy, maintain files for revolving charges such as rent and garnishments. Properly allocate and split expenses, check all expenses for non-compliance and verify signatures.


    Assign and track Purchase Orders.


    Assist periodically with bank reconciliations and journal entries for major programs of the agency.

     

    Enter and post Foster Grandparent vouchers to the general ledger, maintain a current data base containing all Foster Grandparent clients’ names and addresses, print reimbursement checks and all back up and ledger reports.

    Prepare vouchers for cost reporting of fringe benefits, TCRS reports, Insurance reports.


    Regular attendance is a primary and essential job function.


    Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.  Abides by FTHRA’s Personnel Rules and Regulations as may be amended from time to time.


    This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive. Incumbent is responsible for other duties as assigned by management.

    Experience and Education: Incumbent must have knowledge of accounting theories and practices. Experience in governmental accounting is a plus. Must possess knowledge of personal computers and accounting systems.  Working toward completion of at least 2 years of college or an Associate’s degree required.  Degree in accounting, financial planning or related field from an accredited college is preferred.
