What is an internship disability inclusion?

Internship disability inclusion programs are initiatives designed to provide internship opportunities to individuals with disabilities, ensuring they have equal access to work experiences. These programs often offer tailored support, accessible environments, and reasonable accommodations to help interns succeed. The goal is to promote diversity, foster inclusive workplaces, and address barriers that people with disabilities may face when entering the workforce. Such internships benefit both the participants and organizations by encouraging a more inclusive culture and tapping into diverse talent.

What types of projects or initiatives might I work on during an internship in disability inclusion?

As an intern in Disability Inclusion, you may support a variety of projects, such as developing accessible training materials, assisting with inclusive hiring initiatives, or helping to organize awareness campaigns. You could also collaborate with HR and diversity teams to improve workplace accessibility and participate in research on best practices for disability inclusion. These experiences offer valuable insight into organizational efforts to foster a more inclusive environment and provide hands-on opportunities to make a meaningful impact.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship disability inclusion professional, and why are they important?

Role Accountabilities: Assist in preparing preliminary and detailed design drawings, technical reports, and engineering memos for highway and utility coordination projects under the supervision of senior team members.

Support design processes for highways, roadways, utility relocations (water, sewer, gas, telecommunications, etc.), grading, drainage, and related infrastructure. Ensure designs comply with applicable standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements (MTO, TAC, municipal standards, etc.). Collaborate with internal project teams, clients, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery

Utilize CAD software such as Open Roads or AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop design drawings and models. Participate in field investigations, data collection, and analysis as required. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

0-3 years of relevant engineering experience (experience with transportation or utility projects is an asset and new graduates with relevant internship/co-op experience are encouraged to apply). Proficiency with CAD tools (MicroStation, Open Roads/Inroads, or AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred). Understanding of highway, road, and/or utility design principles.

Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills. Familiarity with municipal and/or provincial (e.g., MTO) standards is an asset. Eagerness to learn, grow professionally, and contribute to large-scale infrastructure projects
