Job description

The D.C. United Business Strategy and Analytics Department is seeking a talented and enthusiastic undergraduate or graduate student aspiring to enter the sports marketing industry to join us as a Digital Marketing Intern for Fall 2026. This internship will provide hands-on experience supporting the club's digital marketing initiatives across email, SMS, website, mobile app, and paid media channels. The selected candidate will collaborate with multiple departments, gain exposure to audience engagement strategies, and learn best practices in digital marketing while contributing to campaigns that drive fan engagement, ticket sales, and club awareness.
Interested candidates must submit a resumรฉ and any examples of digital marketing work, campaign projects, or analytics reporting (if available).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with the execution of digital marketing campaigns across email, SMS, website, mobile app, and paid media channels.
  • Support the creation, testing, and deployment of marketing communications using platforms such as Marketo and other club marketing tools.
  • Assist with website content updates, landing page creation, and digital asset management.
  • Conduct research on industry trends, fan engagement strategies, and digital marketing best practices.
  • Collaborate with ticketing, partnerships, content, and community relations teams to support marketing initiatives.
  • Assist with matchday and event-related digital marketing efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be eligible to receive college credit for the internship.
  • Dedicate a maximum of 25 hours per week to the internship from August 2026 through October/November 2026.
  • Pursuing a college degree, preferably in marketing, communications, business, analytics, sports management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in digital marketing, sports marketing, or fan engagement.
  • Experience with email marketing, website management, or digital advertising is a plus.
  • Experience in sports and soccer is a plus.
  • Work may require matchday, weekend, and/or evening availability.
  • The selected candidate must be able to successfully pass a background check.

COMPETENCIES (KSAs)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of digital marketing principles and audience engagement strategies.
  • Familiarity with email marketing, content management systems, website publishing, or marketing automation platforms is preferred.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret campaign performance data and identify insights.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to succeed in both team-oriented and independent project environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially under deadline pressure.
  • Coachable, hardworking, adaptable, and eager to learn.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain confidential information and exercise professionalism at all times.
